Q: What sound system should I buy for my Ford Explorer?
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer and I want to buy a sound system with loud bass and everything. What can I buy without going overboard on the price. I also don’t want to change the dashoard and I do have a 6 disc changer inside the center arm rest console. Would I be able to put the controller there? Thanks!

A: how loud u want to go?
4 ch. amp to power 2 new front speakers (or use 1 channel of the amp) and a sub in a slim box made for trucks… wedge box ported and tuned to your sub. go with a 10 at least.

Q: Should I buy a Ford Explorer or Nissan Pathfinder?
I have only had Ford vehicles in the past- Escape, Explorer, Freestyle. This time, I am thinking of getting a Nissan Pathfinder. I have had some problems with the wheel bearings and brakes on my Freestyle, and might want to get trade it. I have never owned a Nissan before. Any advice would be appreciated!

A: Father has owned both an Explorer and a Mercury Mountaineer which is just a fancier version of the explorer, and had more problems with those two vehicles than all the others in his whole life combined. Not only that, but all the problems occured with low mileage, he ended up selling both before they even reached 75K miles.
The Nissan Pathfinder is nice to look at and has a nice interior, but I have also heard of reliabilty issues with this vehicle as well. I would recommend looking at the Honda CRV and Pilot, as well as the Toyota Rav4, 4Runner, and Highlander, also the Acura MDX and RDX, all of which are far superior to either of the two you listed.
If you go with Nissan, I would recommend checking out the Murano, which is a lot more luxurious looking than the Pathfinder.
Good Luck

Q: Should a mom-to-be buy a 2003 Ford Explorer Limited with 60k miles?
I currently drive a ‘95 Ford Explorer XLT with 151k miles. It is running well but my husband (who takes excellent care of our vehicles and is a mechanic himself) wonders how much longer it’ll go. We love the car in general and are having a baby in July! We like that a new baby in a used car with leather seats will likely cause us less stress than a new baby in a new car — plus messes and such. We wonder if a newER car with baby is smarter.

He saw a FSBO ‘03 Ford Explorer Limited yesterday, very nicely loaded (leather seats, heated seats, sunroof, etc.), with 60k miles, well taken care of. He loves it because it seems to have everything we’d want in a used car. I like it, but the mileage bothers me. The asking price is fair according to Kelly Blue Book (around $16k). I wonder if I could do better on mileage — but then finding it with all the options would be the issue.

Is 60k at $16k too many miles for too much $$$ for how long this car might last us? Keep shopping or buy it now?
I should add… my XLT is a V6 and this newer Limited is a V8. I planned to pay cash for the vehicle — not take out a loan to buy it. (I’ve purposely been saving for a car for when the time comes, whether it is now or later.)

A: personally i would drive the old one until it gave me some trouble. I had a car i put 300K miles on without incident. Drive er till she dies I say.

Q: Should i buy Ford Explorer or Expedition?
What are the best years?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.enacre.net

Q: I might buy a 98 ford explorer 4dr 2wd v6 150k miles Do this truck have a timing belt? How much to replace it?
I don’t have much money so i need something affordable and to get me to work.
Anyone had any problems with their 98 ford explorer 4dr v6 2wd?
Do it require alot of maintence? Thanks.

A: The V6 does not have a timing belt it is a chain. With the miles on it the vehicle it could have allot of mechanical issues depending on how well it was maintained. My advice is buy something else like a small car.

Q: Should i buy a ford explorer?
I am looking for a 4 door car. I love hondas but i have also been thinking about buying an 95 ford explorer. I want to know the pro and cons of own a ford. Should i get a truck/SUV or stick to Honda

A: 1995 explorer is a fine car. for the same $$, you’ll get a reliable car with half the miles of a honda at the same price.

23 transmission complaints out of thousands sold is nothing — it’s not enough to draw a conclusion because many tranny’s fail due to owner neglect.

Have a mechanic inspect any used car before you buy.

Q: Should I buy a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4 Door with high mileage?
It is a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4 Door with 120,000 for $6,200. The price is kind of high but that can always be talked down. But I am worried about what problems I may have with getting a Ford Explorer with 120,000 miles.

A: Kinda high? Better do some checking. The link below is to Kelly Blue book and that vehicle with normal equipment and good condition sells privately for $4420. Even a dealer (retail price) should not exceed $6770 and that assumes the vehicle is just about perfect all around.

I used 4l V6 located in the Las Vegas market as a basis. You can check it out yourself, but that is WAY too much.

Q: Thinking to buy Ford Explorer 2002-2005?
Hi,
I am thinking about to buy Ford Explorer 2002-2005. I live in a cold climate (MN) and want something reliable with 4wd for my family. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: is it worth it to buy a ford explorer with 175k miles?
i am looking to buy a cheap ford explorer but it is even worth spending any money on one wuth 175k miles
it is and 02 and im just worried about things like the transmission and the engine even like the shocks might be blown but its cheap and i just need a car and i really like the Explorers its only 3000

A: I don’t know why not, my wife is driving our 93 model with 230,000 miles on it

Q: Where can I buy 2001 ford explorer hatchback HINGES online?
I was taking off my hatchback and I extended it up too much so now it doesn’t close because I bent the hinges out. So where online do they sell hatchback hinges???

A: One of the best places to look for automobile parts is eBay. Its an obvious answer yet debatable, but they have a great purchasing system in place and plenty of competition to ensure you get exactly what you need from a reliable source, for a reasonable price.

Q: Should I buy a 2000 Ford Explorer or a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
Explorer has 86k miles and Eclipse has 91k miles. They are both quite nice looking and cost about the same. I live in chicago.

A: the ford will crap out in another 30K tops

Q: Should I buy a 2002 Ford Explorer or a 1999 Range Rover?
The prices are similar between these two. The Range Rover obviously looks better, but I am getting mixed messages about it from review websites regarding reliability. Also, the Explorer has about 10,000 less miles on it. Should I take the risk of poor reliability and go for the Rover, or stay “safe” with the Explorer?

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: Should i buy an 02 ford explorer with 48000mi with good history?
My fiance’s dad thinks that ford’s are bad cars because they have a history of roll overs and they don’t last that long. How long do they usually last if i am careful with my car? Should i take his advice and try and get another car, or are ford cars not that bad and just get the car? Also keep in mind that i like to travel.

A: I wouldn’t buy it. There are so much better cars out there, no matter what price range you are in. 02 Explorer will never be considered an option for me. 02 Toyota 4runner Limited are badass, I had one when i turned Sixteen back in 2001 and i drove it though 2003 and got another car as my graduation present.

Q: I want to buy a 07 Ford Explorer, is Ford motor credit good to do business with? Are Explorers good vehicles?
I’m a first time buyer, a fair credit score, and an eddie bauer 07 explorer is my dream vehicle.

A: Ford Motor Credit did okay by me and if you have fair credit they should be fine. I know several people that have owned or leased Explorers and they’ve basically liked them. They aren’t the most reliable out there an repairs can get expensive. The drive lines and steering systems were a bit fragile on the 2003 models and this is in regular city driving. One of my friends had to replace the rear axle on his 2003 with less than 39000 miles on it.

Q: Should I buy a New Ford Explorer?
I am looking for a new car and I am leaning toward a 2007 or 2008 new Ford Explorer. I want to get the Eddie Bauer Edition with leather seats, chrome rims, and no other extras besides maybe heated seat. I also want to get the 2 wheel drive V8. How much a month would this be to lease if I had no trade in. The lease would be for 36 months. How much monthly, I can’t go over $411 a month. Thanks!

A: Great Vehicle! Fords are the Best……Anyway, go to www.fordvehicles.com and you can build your vehicle and see what you payments would be by the payment calculator
