A: One of the best places to look for automobile parts is eBay. Its an obvious answer yet debatable, but they have a great purchasing system in place and plenty of competition to ensure you get exactly what you need from a reliable source, for a reasonable price.

Q: Where online can i find a ABS ring for a 94 ford Explorer 2WD?
Where online can i find a ABS ring for a 94 ford Explorer 2WD I looked online every where no luck!!!!!!!!!!

A: did you try a salvage yard that uses a computer to track parts across the country?

Q: WHERE CAN I VIEW A WIRING DIAGRAM FOR A 1998 FORD EXPLORER, ONLINE, FREE?

A: Try here..

http://www.ford.com/

Q: can anybody tell me where to find free online repair manuals for a 1996 ford explorer?
I need to find the fire order for a 1996 5.0L ford explorer. I changed the plugs and wires now it sputters and backfires. so I need to know how to fix this.

A: www.autozone.com has repair manuals online

Q: where can i get online a fuse box diagram for an 1991 ford explorer?

A: Chilton motors manual.

Q: where can I find a diagram of a 92 ford explorer brake caliper assembly free online?

A: dont quite know why you want a diagram, its is far more cost effective to buy the whole thing

Q: Is there a free online guide on how to install a new stereo in a 96 ford explorer anywhere?

A: It’s really easy to replace the radio. I used crutchfield.com to change the one in mine. I have a 96 explorer and used them. They have a guide that will tell you what will fit or not. The radio is huge and the new one will be half that size. They will include a little thing that will turn that free space into a pocket for storage. On the back of the radio, you have the antenna plugin, which is standard on any radio. You also have the wiring harness for the speakers. Crutchfield will include an adapter that will transform your current harness into one that will fit into your new radio. Removing the radio you will need a radio removal tool. On the left and right side of the radio, you will see two holes. You can get them for about 5 bucks at the auto parts store. What you do is you stick them in to those holes, squeeze and push them I believe away from each other and the radio will start to come out. I would disconnect the battery though because you have some airbag sensors kicking around in there. Hope this helps

Q: Ford explorer!!!!!!!!!?
I have a 1997 ford explorer and need to get a new remote to lock/unlock the doors I tried replacing the batteries how would I go about getting a new remote?? Please tell me where I could call or go online to get one

A: Call a Ford dealer and ask, but until then, just use the key. That will always work.

Q: How to do an oil change and maintenance a 2003 Ford Explorer yourself?
Looking for a guide on how to do maintenance on a 2003 Ford Explorer V6. I searched for it online and couldn’t find one. My vehicle needs a tune up and want to do it myself.

A: its very simple but if you want to know how to do maintenance on it, then you should get the book at autozone for $20 it will show you step by step how to do everything, change heads, oil, pumps, take the radiator out. breaks everything down for you so its simple.

to change oil get an oil pan jack some oil flush, oil, oil filter, then drive home put the motor flush in your oil, run it for five minutes, it will remove all the gunk and build of in the oil (dont drive around with motor flush in your oil!) jack it up, let it cool down for a little bit or the oil will burn you, take the plug out of the oil pan, drain it, take off the oil filter, then replace, put the plug back in fill the oil back up and your done.

for other maintenance just buy the book its easier to understand then on here, and there are detailed pictures on whats what.

Q: Can you replace the steering rack SEALS on a 1999 ford explorer XLT?
The steering rack seals on my 1999 ford explorer XLT are leaking. Everywhere i look online has replacement steering racks but no replacement seals as such. Can this part only be replaced or can the seals be changed?

A: NA

Q: free online manual of 1998 ford explorer?
need to find free download of 1998 ford exployer owner manual

A: The Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Owners website offers free down-loadable manuals and all of the other booklets that originally came with the vehicle.
You can register there and get a lot of other information and benefits too.

The manuals are in pdf format and can be saved to your computer or printed for future reference.

here is the link for the 1998 Explorer manual:

http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WOWEXP/~MUS~LEN/42/98expog1e.pdf

EDIT for additional information:
If the above link to the owners guide gives you an error message please go to the Owner Site (link below) and scroll down to “View Owner Guides”. That will take you directly to the page to enter your vehicles Year/Make/Model, and subsequently to all the guides and booklets. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Q: where can i find a good online store to makea 98 ford explorer an off road vehicle.?

A: they make a 4 wd mode., just trade yours off

Q: Where can I find online Pictures of My 2000 Ford Explorer?
I just bought a used 2000 Ford Explorer XLT. It is a 4 door. 4×4……..and I want to find some pictures of the inside and outside to send my mom so she can see it! It is full leather interior and again it is a XLT. Can someone help me find some good pics of the inside AND outside of this SUV? I would take my own pics but I can’t:( at least not today so I would like something to send her! The exterior color of mine is Blue…..Like a greyish Blue. Just in case it asks you what color it is! Can someone help?

A: Go to www.yahoo.com. In the search bar, type in 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, then click on “Images”. You’ll find her!

Q: What kind of stereo can i get for my 1997 Ford Explorer?
I don’t like my current stock in-dash stereo. I want to upgrade, but I have no idea wheere to begin. The slot where it fits seems much larger than the size of the stereos i see when i look for some online. Is there a compatibility number i can use to search with? Can anyone recommend a good product for my ‘97 Ford Explorer, or even a good website to buy one. Please don’t just leave a website, please only respond if you can answer my original question. Thank You!

A: you can get any stereo. Custom stereos all are smaller, so they fit. With all of them, you have to get an installation mounting kit thing and wireing harness also. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. You can get these things at Walmart and many other places.

Q: online repair manual for a 1999 Ford Explorer and exploded parts detail?
remove dash and center console parts for repair or replacement

A: The only thing available on-line is by subscription. There is no FREE information. It is available only from the manufacturers, and they charge dearly for it.
You can go here——>

http://www.eautorepair.net/

…and for an annual subscription, you have availability of ALL the published repair information for your car, including diagnostics, repair, remove/replace, illustrations, diagrams, recalls, TSBs etc.
Very good resource. It is virtually the same thing we professionals use, but limited to one car.

Good Luck

A: how loud u want to go?
4 ch. amp to power 2 new front speakers (or use 1 channel of the amp) and a sub in a slim box made for trucks… wedge box ported and tuned to your sub. go with a 10 at least.

Q: Should I buy a Ford Explorer or Nissan Pathfinder?
I have only had Ford vehicles in the past- Escape, Explorer, Freestyle. This time, I am thinking of getting a Nissan Pathfinder. I have had some problems with the wheel bearings and brakes on my Freestyle, and might want to get trade it. I have never owned a Nissan before. Any advice would be appreciated!

A: Father has owned both an Explorer and a Mercury Mountaineer which is just a fancier version of the explorer, and had more problems with those two vehicles than all the others in his whole life combined. Not only that, but all the problems occured with low mileage, he ended up selling both before they even reached 75K miles.
The Nissan Pathfinder is nice to look at and has a nice interior, but I have also heard of reliabilty issues with this vehicle as well. I would recommend looking at the Honda CRV and Pilot, as well as the Toyota Rav4, 4Runner, and Highlander, also the Acura MDX and RDX, all of which are far superior to either of the two you listed.
If you go with Nissan, I would recommend checking out the Murano, which is a lot more luxurious looking than the Pathfinder.
Good Luck

Q: Should a mom-to-be buy a 2003 Ford Explorer Limited with 60k miles?
I currently drive a ‘95 Ford Explorer XLT with 151k miles. It is running well but my husband (who takes excellent care of our vehicles and is a mechanic himself) wonders how much longer it’ll go. We love the car in general and are having a baby in July! We like that a new baby in a used car with leather seats will likely cause us less stress than a new baby in a new car — plus messes and such. We wonder if a newER car with baby is smarter.

He saw a FSBO ‘03 Ford Explorer Limited yesterday, very nicely loaded (leather seats, heated seats, sunroof, etc.), with 60k miles, well taken care of. He loves it because it seems to have everything we’d want in a used car. I like it, but the mileage bothers me. The asking price is fair according to Kelly Blue Book (around $16k). I wonder if I could do better on mileage — but then finding it with all the options would be the issue.

Is 60k at $16k too many miles for too much $$$ for how long this car might last us? Keep shopping or buy it now?
I should add… my XLT is a V6 and this newer Limited is a V8. I planned to pay cash for the vehicle — not take out a loan to buy it. (I’ve purposely been saving for a car for when the time comes, whether it is now or later.)

A: personally i would drive the old one until it gave me some trouble. I had a car i put 300K miles on without incident. Drive er till she dies I say.

Q: Should i buy Ford Explorer or Expedition?
What are the best years?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.enacre.net

Q: I might buy a 98 ford explorer 4dr 2wd v6 150k miles Do this truck have a timing belt? How much to replace it?
I don’t have much money so i need something affordable and to get me to work.
Anyone had any problems with their 98 ford explorer 4dr v6 2wd?
Do it require alot of maintence? Thanks.

A: The V6 does not have a timing belt it is a chain. With the miles on it the vehicle it could have allot of mechanical issues depending on how well it was maintained. My advice is buy something else like a small car.

Q: Should i buy a ford explorer?
I am looking for a 4 door car. I love hondas but i have also been thinking about buying an 95 ford explorer. I want to know the pro and cons of own a ford. Should i get a truck/SUV or stick to Honda

A: 1995 explorer is a fine car. for the same $$, you’ll get a reliable car with half the miles of a honda at the same price.

23 transmission complaints out of thousands sold is nothing — it’s not enough to draw a conclusion because many tranny’s fail due to owner neglect.

Have a mechanic inspect any used car before you buy.

Q: Should I buy a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4 Door with high mileage?
It is a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4 Door with 120,000 for $6,200. The price is kind of high but that can always be talked down. But I am worried about what problems I may have with getting a Ford Explorer with 120,000 miles.

A: Kinda high? Better do some checking. The link below is to Kelly Blue book and that vehicle with normal equipment and good condition sells privately for $4420. Even a dealer (retail price) should not exceed $6770 and that assumes the vehicle is just about perfect all around.

I used 4l V6 located in the Las Vegas market as a basis. You can check it out yourself, but that is WAY too much.

Q: Thinking to buy Ford Explorer 2002-2005?
Hi,
I am thinking about to buy Ford Explorer 2002-2005. I live in a cold climate (MN) and want something reliable with 4wd for my family. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: is it worth it to buy a ford explorer with 175k miles?
i am looking to buy a cheap ford explorer but it is even worth spending any money on one wuth 175k miles
it is and 02 and im just worried about things like the transmission and the engine even like the shocks might be blown but its cheap and i just need a car and i really like the Explorers its only 3000

A: I don’t know why not, my wife is driving our 93 model with 230,000 miles on it

Q: Where can I buy 2001 ford explorer hatchback HINGES online?
I was taking off my hatchback and I extended it up too much so now it doesn’t close because I bent the hinges out. So where online do they sell hatchback hinges???

A: One of the best places to look for automobile parts is eBay. Its an obvious answer yet debatable, but they have a great purchasing system in place and plenty of competition to ensure you get exactly what you need from a reliable source, for a reasonable price.

Q: Should I buy a 2000 Ford Explorer or a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
Explorer has 86k miles and Eclipse has 91k miles. They are both quite nice looking and cost about the same. I live in chicago.

A: the ford will crap out in another 30K tops

Q: Should I buy a 2002 Ford Explorer or a 1999 Range Rover?
The prices are similar between these two. The Range Rover obviously looks better, but I am getting mixed messages about it from review websites regarding reliability. Also, the Explorer has about 10,000 less miles on it. Should I take the risk of poor reliability and go for the Rover, or stay “safe” with the Explorer?

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: Should i buy an 02 ford explorer with 48000mi with good history?
My fiance’s dad thinks that ford’s are bad cars because they have a history of roll overs and they don’t last that long. How long do they usually last if i am careful with my car? Should i take his advice and try and get another car, or are ford cars not that bad and just get the car? Also keep in mind that i like to travel.

A: I wouldn’t buy it. There are so much better cars out there, no matter what price range you are in. 02 Explorer will never be considered an option for me. 02 Toyota 4runner Limited are badass, I had one when i turned Sixteen back in 2001 and i drove it though 2003 and got another car as my graduation present.

Q: I want to buy a 07 Ford Explorer, is Ford motor credit good to do business with? Are Explorers good vehicles?
I’m a first time buyer, a fair credit score, and an eddie bauer 07 explorer is my dream vehicle.

A: Ford Motor Credit did okay by me and if you have fair credit they should be fine. I know several people that have owned or leased Explorers and they’ve basically liked them. They aren’t the most reliable out there an repairs can get expensive. The drive lines and steering systems were a bit fragile on the 2003 models and this is in regular city driving. One of my friends had to replace the rear axle on his 2003 with less than 39000 miles on it.

Q: Should I buy a New Ford Explorer?
I am looking for a new car and I am leaning toward a 2007 or 2008 new Ford Explorer. I want to get the Eddie Bauer Edition with leather seats, chrome rims, and no other extras besides maybe heated seat. I also want to get the 2 wheel drive V8. How much a month would this be to lease if I had no trade in. The lease would be for 36 months. How much monthly, I can’t go over $411 a month. Thanks!

A: Great Vehicle! Fords are the Best……Anyway, go to www.fordvehicles.com and you can build your vehicle and see what you payments would be by the payment calculator

Anyone out there work for a Ford Dealership or know someone that works at a Dealership and can offer me their discount?

Or perhaps personally know of a junk yard that would have a freshly recked exploder from 2002-2005.
I am in the Washington DC metro/NOVA area.

I have the installation covered. I just need the part.

Thanks
I have looked for aftermarket parts and no one makes it. Not Walker Mufflers or any other legitimate exhaust company.

A: you CANNOT buy a used one from a salvage yard,it’s against federal law. However, you can buy a “re-certified” one at brownrecycling.com for much less than a new one

Q: How much do you think my car insurance would be(details inside)?
I am 15, I have taken drivers ed and I have my restricted liscense. I have a 3.8 gpa(I heard you get a discount for that) and I live in Kansas. I am looking at a 1995 Ford Explorer with 168,000 miles. I know you couldn’t tell me exactly, but about what do you think my monthly payment would be? Thanks
I am a female and I live in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City.

A: Its hard to tell you because it depends on a lot of factors, try this site where you can get quotes from different companies

http://affordinsurance.notlong.com

Q: Is it usually the lawyers who are the only ones to get money in class action suits?
The Ford Explorer lawsuit has been settled and only the lawyers got money. The Ford Explorer owners only got $500 discount coupons toward buying a new one.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090803/ap_on_re_us/us_ford_coupon_settlement

A: That happens all to often, they endlessly drag these cases out to such an extent that they wind up with the lions share of the money and the people who were injured, end up with not that much. I in part blame the judges for this, they allow the lawyers to drag cases out for years and years and give little thought to the actual injured party, this isn’t just for class action suits either that goes for personal injury and others as well

Q: are firestone tires ok?
i’ve some good discount for firestone tires for my corolla, but a friend said that Firestone tires are not that safe, so i Googled and found this bad publicity back in 2001 where ford explorer SUVs had so many accidents due to the tires peeling off. What do you think? are these tires now safe? thanks.

A: Since then, Firestone has recalled that line of tires. They have also since fixed any major defects in their design. The imperfections in the tires were not in the design, but in the manufacturing process. Besides, even if the tires still weren’t fixed, it wouldn’t matter to you because all the problems were with truck tires, specifically those sold to Ford in 2001 for the Explorers.

Q: Could a bad transmission ruin a flywheel? HELP!!!?
I have a 96 Ford Explorer with a V6. At 109000 miles I needed to replace the flywheel, spacer, etc. The place that I took it to told me that since the Transmission was already out you mine as well put in a new rebuilt transmission. So I did I had problems with the transmission from the get go. It would take for ever to go from P to Drive and even when stepping on the gas there was a bit of a lag. I took it back and they said there was nothing wrong. At 123,000 miles the transmission completely fails. The mechanic replaces it under warranty. Now I’m at 134,000 and the spacer on my flywheel completely cracks. So they want to put in another flywheel and spacer (I think they called the spacer a “puck”). Could the bad transmission that I ran for 24,000 have severely damaged my flywheel spacer? They want to charge me a reduced price of $650 for the labor and the new flywheel. Should I ask for a bigger discount?

THANKS!!!

A: A cracked flywheel is not a common repair with these vehicles. Misalignment or improper torque sequence or some other concern is causing this.
Consider, the first flywheel lasted 14 years and over a 100,000 miles – the new replacement certainly should have lasted longer than 25,000 miles.
What kind of warranty or guaranty does the shop offer with their repairs? If it’s out of the time or mileage, I guess you’ll just have to bite the bullet and pay the “reduced” cost of removing the transmission yet once again to replace the flywheel.

Q: where can i get ford explorer parts?
i am in australia and i have a 1997 ford explorer was backing out of the drive way and the reverse bank snapped and now we have no reverse it has been like that for the last 3 years, is there any where i can get a reverse band to fix it well hubby can fix it, even if you are in the states preferably los angeles and how much are they thanks all…………

A: a transmission shop can sell you the parts or fix it for you…

Q: 1998 Ford Explorer parts magaine?
no spam, please!

A: try LMC dot com the handle body and suspension parts for ford

Q: Will Parts from Ford Explorer fit onto a Mazda Navajo?
Recently my daughter got into a traffic accident. The Mazda Navajo she was driving suffered damage to the front bumper and front left fender. I’m have a hard time finding parts locally for a Mazda Navajo and I don’t want to pay a lot for shipping cost if I order something over the NET. Because the vehicles look virtually identical, do you think the parts may be interchangeable?

A: They are identical. Your Mazda was designed and built by Ford.

Q: Does the ford explorer and ford explorer sport trac have the same exterior parts?
Does the ford explorer and ford explorer sport trac have the same exterior parts? like headlights/taillights? what about body lifts or suspensions?

A: Above is correct, some body panels are interchangeable some aren’t…Headlights, front fenders, hood yes. Doors unsure, bed and back no (obviously). The underpinnings (suspension) are similar, but not exact…and depending on the year, the Explorer went to independent rear suspension, while the sport trac kept the solid axle differential.

Q: How much should it cost me to replace the fuel pump in a ‘95 Ford Explorer in Jersey, parts/ labor included?
If anyone knows a good mechanic in the central Jersey area, please let me know! Thanks!!

A: about $250 to$300 if this isn’t any problems

Q: My front 2 tires are not spinning on my 2001 ford explorer AWD. What possible parts will i need to replace?
I suspect its either the shift motor or something called a general module. Supposedly these modules break after a jump and newer modules are engineered better and don’t do this. Are these parts I could replaced myself without having experience?

A: Its probably your front axle actuator not keeping the axle engaged

Q: Where can I find Aftermarket parts for a 94 Ford Explorer?
A while back a friend of mine had a 92 explorer that was all tricked out… He had projector headlights, cowl induction hood, cool looking tail lights exc. He even had the interior all custom… I just practically had a 94 explorer given to me and I’d like to do some of the same things my friend did but now it seems that know one handles aftermarket headlights and stuff for the 91-94 explorer… Does anyone know a cool website that offers cool after market stuff for 91-94 explorers?

A: http://www.explorerexpress.com/
http://www.explorer4×4.com/resources.htm
just a couple the second is a group site that has tech articles & lots of links that you asked 4

Q: 2000 Ford Explorer Parts! Please Help!?
I need a drivers side power Mirror, a center console lid
and a factory CD Stereo.

What are the comparable years for these parts?
Example: 1998-2000
I am getting conflicting results from the internet.

Thanks for youe help!

A: 1998-2000 typically, but also other years before and after will also fit as well, good luck…….

Q: I just got a 02 Ford Explorer and I want planning on working on it. What is a good website for parts?
I just got a 2002 Ford Explorer what is a good website where I can find kits, rims, and parts? So I can “pimp” it out?
BTW Im not looks for replacement parts. It works just fine and looks fine, I just want to make it look better.

A: Go to jcwhitney.com They sell replacement and after market parts. Also you can try looking on google searching for “body kit for 2002 explorer” or something like that. Get you some nice 22’s please dont get the spinners but just some regular 22’s (all black) with a nice sounds system and some 3% tint all the way around except the front windsheild and you’ll be set. All the people will be jockin you but be aware, doing anything other than the way it comes from the factory is drawing attention to your self so if you live in a not so friendly neighbor hood I would becareful about anything “extra” you do to your car

Q: replaced parts on 1991 ford explorer, why still hard to start?
1991 ford explorer, very very hard to start, replaced eec relay, fuel relay, the fuel pump comes on,replaced spark plugs, replaced idle contro valve, replaced map sense, replaced fuel filter, but still very hard to start, runs fine after start,so whats the problem?

A: You have to stop replacing parts that’s doesn’t require replacing. The vehicle will have trouble code and the code must be dealt with (must correct the problem(s) or replace the trouble part). When is the last time you clean the fuel injectors? I would either take the injector apart and clean it carefully or get yourself a bottle of fuel injector cleaner that add into your gas tank and drive as it clean the injectors. Although, I was told that Chevron have injector cleaner in their premium fuel. You may want to give that a try.

Since you’ve replaced lots of parts already, you may want to remove the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and clean it out with carburetor or electronic cleaner and remove the negative terminal on the battery for at least 15 minutes to res set the computer.

Q: Are 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Parts compatible with 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac???Int/Ext/Mechanical???
thinking to buy a ‘01 Ford Explorer Sport. . .There arent nearly as many reviews about the Explorer Sport, as there are for Explorer’s, or Explorer Sport Tracs. What parts, if any, are compatible. . .Either Explorer Sport via Explorer, or Explorer Sport via Explorer Sport Trac. Mechanical, undercarriage, interior, exterior, wheels, hubs, axles, half shafts, etc. . . .
Need to know ASAP, because plan to buy within 10 days and will pick up SUV at home after 15 month deployment to Afghanistan ends in a few weeks.
Thanks.

SGT Vassey
1-C 4/73 RECON
(Infantry, Airborne)
82nd Airborne Division
“All Americans – All the Way”

A: Nearly all of the parts are compatible.
The exceptions being; the front doors, back seat/cargo area, & the length of the undercarriage components ( as they have a different wheelbase)

The Sport was just a shorter version of the 4door Explorer until 2002, when the body style of the 4 door changed & it went to an independent rear suspension.

The SportTrac was also just another ‘body style’ & shared many of the componants of the ‘old body style’ of the 4door.

Rest assured, since the Explorer has been the best selling vehicle in its class for many years (including 2001) , that there are still many on the road & all the components & parts will be readily available to you for a long long time.

Note: there were a few recalls on this model/year..the last one was in Aug of 2007.
All recalls should have been addressed by now but, if you know the VIN of the vehicle that you are thinking of buying, any Ford dealer can run the number through their computer for you to make sure that there are none still left open.

Q: Aftermarket parts for my 1998 Ford Explorer Sport 4×4?
Where’s a good place to find aftermarket parts like brush guards, fog lights, hoods, suspension kits, etc. for my explorer? I’m wanting some websites. I’m just having a little trouble finding stuff. Thanks for any help!

A: http://www.frtruckparts.com/

Q: i need a web site to get good quality 1991 ford explorer body parts at low cost?

A: www.car-part.com
Then give me the 10 points

Q: I need 95-00 ford explorer electrical parts, cheap!?
Im looking for the third brake light ballast resistor. (mounted behind third brake light) and i need it cheap. ill pull it out if needed

Q: Question about a used ford explorer suv?
I am interested in buying a 1996 used ford explorer that has 185,000 miles. I am hesitant because of the mileage but the vehicle is in pretty good keeped condition. Should I buy it? Its for sale for 1300.

A: You don’t get much for $1300. for peace of mind, have a mechanic
check it out, otherwise go for it!

Q: Replacing Key Fob for a 1999 Ford Explorer?
I just bought a used Ford Explorer, but a key fob was not given to me. I can’t imagine that It wasn’t included in the original sale. Can you get a replacement from a dealer?

A: Keyless entry is an optional feature, so it’s possible that it wasn’t included on your vehicle. If it was, then a dealer should be able to provide a replacement key fob; however, you might find it’s cheaper to have an after-market keyless entry system installed, especially if you need more than one remote.

Q: I need a complete used left door for my Ford Explorer Sport 2002?
If you have one for sale or if you know where I can find a used cheapest one in Dallas, TX.. let me know please

A: Try the salvage yards. Sometimes vehicles that are wrecked have some very good parts remaining. They may even have one in the exact color you need. Look up the salvage yards in your area and start calling. See where you can get it cheapest. Good luck.

Q: i am a auto sales woman for ford.how would i go about getting customers to come to me to buy a new or used aut
i am a auto sales woman for ford.how would i go about getting customers to come to me to purchase either new or used vechile.
we have ford fusion, escape, explorer ford mustang.focus.f150
any ideas

A: It is the Dealerships responsibility to generate floor traffic – not the Salesman’s. It is the Salesman’s responsibility to capitalize on the customer he / she gets.

There is an easy rule of thumb to determine if the Dealership is doing its job and your not working a flooded floor. Divide the number of retail sales by the number of Salesman. On average a car salesman will sell 10 cars a month. A Dealership that sells 100 retail cars a month should have no more than 10 salesmen (500 sales – 50 salesmen). Once you’ve determined you’re in the right Dealership, you then need to make the most of your situation.

How is your appearance? Do you smoke cigarettes? Would a customer want to spend 15 minutes on a demo with you?

Car sales have traditionally been a male business. There are a couple of pitfalls you must avoid being a woman. First never, ever, ever go on a Demo without getting a photocopy of the customers Drivers License and then leaving the copy with your sales manager. Second – Wives buy cars! Don’t attempt to sell the husband a car and ignore the wife. The wife will spoil your sale every time.

You will not sell a car to every customer on the first visit. Customer follow-up determines the best salesmen. You should get most customers on a Demo – that will get you their addresses for a post card. (You photocopied their Drivers License for your safety and follow-up). If the customer gave you a phone number – a polite call every couple of days is a good idea.

Once you become a sales manager it will become your responsibility to generate floor traffic.

I gave my opinion to an Internet Sales Manager on how to generate floor traffic last week here at Yahoo! Answers. Click on my name and look for my advice to – “I am an Internet Sales Manager at a car dealership. How can I drive more traffic in to see me?”

Good Luck

Q: Is a ‘94 Ford Explorer compatible with a ‘96 transmition?
We have a 96 but its beat up after an accident,
there is a 94 truck the exact same kind jsut 2 yrs younger. for sale for 500$ without a transmition
if we used the transmition we have in the truck we have now would it work in this older version of the truck?

A: You can cross referance it at www.car-parts.com
But i think it will fit if they are the same 2WD or 4WD but it wont work if one is 2 WD
and the other 4WD.
The 4WD trans is shorter.

Q: What a “Debt Collector” may be able to do to me to get the money for the old loan they bought?
I wrote a little yesterday, I’m the co-signer on a car loan that my ex-husband defaulted on. The co. “SentryDebtcollectors”; are telling me that I owe several amounts, one is over $18K, $16K, or $6K but the original loan wasn’t more then $12K (on a used, 93 Ford Explorer) he did make payments, they sold the car for $8K so with interest sure it might be over $18K but can he collect interest on old interest that wasn’t his interest? Also I don’t have any of the paper work, I don’t have the original loan doc’s with my signature, the bill of sale or any payment history, if I’m going to be buying this loan out I want that info but this company refuses to give it to me and the original loan co. won’t either. They won’t mail me anything only email or fax and I don’t want them to have this information. And there telling me that if they send it to me I will owe the most due on the loan. I asked if they would overnight anything they refuse and have hung up on me several times because I can’t give then at least $4k by today. I talked to an Attorney he said they can attach my wages but I will go to court. I feel it’s cheaper to pay $500 for court then $18K when I don’t think that much is owed. I’m very confused. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me. The car was reposed in 2007 and the original loan was made in 2003. When does the statute of 3yrs start? Can they just attach my wages with out taking me to court first? Will I be liable to pay the entire amount of the loan even though there were several payments made, won’t I just have to pay the balance and maybe negotiate some of that? Don’t they just want some money instead of no money? Please help.

A: I have to disagree with bdancer on the what the collecting SOL is based on.

A repo voids the original contract.
The repo deficiency was created “after” the original contract was broken.
The deficiency is NOT a contract – written or oral.
The repo SOL begins on the date the repo was sold, that created the deficiency amount.

The repo deficiency falls under the UCC 4 year SOL:
UCC § 2-725(1), provides that “[a]n action for breach of any contract for [the] sale [of goods] must be commenced within four years after the cause of action has accrued.” A cause of action accrues “when the breach occurs . . .

A repo deficiency cannot be claimed if all of the required notices were not properly given. UCC § 9.506 (the required notices should be sent generally within 2 years of the repo and the repo sale)

If the repo happened in 2007 then you would still be within SOL, no matter if you are looking at UCC or at written SOL.

If you had not received the proper notices within the past 2 years then you may not be liable for it.

If you had not signed/initialed the guarantee box on the back of the original contract then you may not be liable for it.

A collector cannot break the the debt into different amounts.
The $18k and $16k amounts sound extremely over the top. The $6k does sound a tad high, but that would really depend on the condition of the car and how difficult it was for the original creditor to repo it or to correct any problems with it (if they had to or actually did correct anything)

The collector really doesn’t have to send anything unless you send a written request.

You really need to get the deficiency notice, etc., from the original creditor.

Click on my profile and click on the last link I’ve listed to a free credit discussion board.
Everything on that site is free to read, use and to ask questions.
Go to the Credit Forum and post your question about the repo.
You will be able to find an extremely well written repo dispute letter template, also free to use, to send to the original creditor and the collector.
If you have any questions about how to use it, etc., people in that forum will be able to help.

eta
If you are in CA, if they had failed to provide the repo notices within the required time, then it may actually be illegal to try to collect the deficiency.
In CA, creditors must not only comply with the resale requirements of §9-610 but also the provisions of the Rees-Levering Motor Vehicle Sales and Finance Act (Civil Code §2981 et seq.) and §17200 of the California Business and Professions Code.

Q: With the economy the way it is do I have an advantage to buying a used car from a dealership?
I’m looking at a 2008 Ford Explorer. The asking price is 19,900. I’m offering 16,000 for it.
With the economy the way it is, I’m sure sales are slipping. I know that this particular vehicle has been on the dealership lot for a number of months and I’m sure they would like to move it.
I wrote them a quick email last week with that offer and they called me right up and asked when I could come down to “make a crazy deal” do you think I’M crazy for offering such a low deal or am I going to be wasting my time?

A: no, you’re not wasting your time! the info you gave shows that you’ve got a good headstart on this deal. When you go down there, take cash (if possible), and DON’T BUDGE on your offer. If they give you grief about it, just say “hey, I know the car’s been on your lot for a couple of months and if it doesn’t sell, you don’t make money, but I guess you’re ok with that.”

What may have seemed like a “crazy deal” when the economy was good, is now going to be given serious consideration.

Q: which of these cars is the best deal for the money?
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?engine=&fuel=&lastStartYear=1981&sort_type=priceDESC&default_sort=priceDESC&systime=&drive=&style_flag=1&body_code=0&seller_type=b&min_price=0&color=&keywords_display=&advanced=&distance=50&doors=&keywordsrep=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&awsp=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&rdm=1262633889652&marketZipError=false&keywordsfyc=&search_type=both&transmission=&max_price=3000&max_mileage=&end_year=2011&make=&start_year=1981&num_records=25&certified=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&address=46805&pager.offset=200&first_record=201

A: i dont know, got board of reading but im sure its all very interesting

Q: What would be the best exhaust kit to put on my truck after I put on Edelbrock Shorty Headers?
Alright I am panning on putting headers on my 2003 Ford F-150, 5.4L V8, FX4. Nothing done to the truck except for just a K&N air filter, not the cold air intake just the filter. I will be putting on the cold air intake kit later on, also with a edge programmer. I found some headers on Craig’s list for sale that were never used that fit ford trucks with a 5.4L from years 99-03. They are $200. They are called Edelbrock Shorty Headers #65633. I’m just going to paste what the ad said onto here…”NIB: Edelbrock Shorty Headers #65633. Direct replacement fit 1999-2003 F150, F250, Explorer with 5.4L V8, EGR, no air ride suspension. 50 state smog legal accepts factory emission equipment. TI-TECH coated for long lasting durability. Direct replacement for restrictive stock exhaust manifolds. Simple installation using stock crossover pipe. Mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted flow and more power. Includes all mounting hardware and gaskets. New in box. Never mounted.” Will these headers give me more power or are they practically just going to replace my stock headers with giving me no increase in power or sound? What does TI-Tech coated mean…like chrome? Are these good headers for the price? Will they give me a deep sound tone like a bubbling sound or just stock? I want a deep tone sound while idling, but when I punch it I want it to roar! Also and my final question what should I put on after the headers? I no I can’t straight pipe the truck…way to loud, but cool. I found what this guy did with his 5.4 but it had hooker headers “hooker headers 2 to 1/2″ pipe to 2 single in single out flowmaster super 40s, magnaflow tips.” My real question is I don’t know what would sound better a 2 inch single in single out cherry bomb glass pack or a 2 inch single in single out flowmaster super 40 but I don’t think I’ll put the magnaflow tip on though. Please answer ALL of my questions, I no alot about engines but not that much about exhaust…PLEASE HELP ME!!! Thank You to all who answer!! Open to all Suggestions!

A: 2″ on that displacement is wrong. On a N/A v/8 you want at least 2.5 closer to 3″ nothing above. Typical shorty headers are FACTORY direct replacements meaning you don’t have to replace other exhaust components. If that’s what they are all you need to do is replace the remainder of the exhaust with a new cat-back and high flow downpipe/cat. Should be available somewhere.

TI-Tech probably means it’s some sort of titanium coating but not actually titanium…meaning they’ll be strong and less prone to rust. (Can’t say just basing on what you said). Usually replacing steel with stainless will get you a little boost in power due to flow and bigger diameter. You generally get the most power from the replacement of the cat with a different unit (usually “high flow”) it reduces the back pressure so you shouldn’t really bump up the diameter of the piping (more than .5″) or remove mufflers/resonator. Just my opinion… The best mufflers you can get are Borla which will dampen the noise (magnaflow is okay but too rumbly); usually a crisp note. Cherry Bomb and flowmaster are a bad idea if you don’t want to lose your hearing/the cops pay attention to exhaust violations. Tips don’t do anything except improve the look.

But it’s up to you.

A: Ok, so your learning about horse power and started with a K&N, Good.
Now then, Breathing is Everything! (when it comes to the ponies and torque)
Put a straw in your mouth and breath thru it. That’s what you engine is doing through the stock system. How much Power can your body make breathing this way?
Put the Cold Air Intake on NOW!
Now on to the Headers.

TI-Tech coated; probably like a powder coating but not a ceramic which is best for heat purposes.(I’m assuming this because of the price)

Any aftermarket Headers vs stock exhaust Manifolds. Will increase Horse Power and Torque by equalizing the back pressure to the individual cylinders. (Only a 2 stroke engine requires back pressure.) Long tube (each tube of equal length, not all are made this way) ceramic coated Headers are the best.

Headers have little to do with the “loudness” of the sound but does change the note a little.

Here’s the exhaust plan;
Headers,
Hi Flow Cat’s!!! Yes 2 of them (you probably only got 1 now).
2″ X pipe exhaust tube (balances the pressures of the left and right banks)
Cherry Bombs or Purple Horney’s are Loud.
A baffled muffler like a Magnaflow or Flowmaster will give a good note and doesn’t hinder the flow like glass-packs do.
Tips are up to you as they really don’t do anything but look cool in the right application.
Ceramic coated headersand exhaust pipes are the Best. They keep the fumes Hot so they escape/move faster and prevent corrosion.

Between the cold air intake and headers/exhaust, expect a 25 to 30% increase in HP.
And as a bonus, expect a Increase in Fule Economy (better milage!) as well.
Have Fun!!!
Next thing is Ignition, I like MSD’s 6A box but I have a distributor.
Start picking up some mags like Popular Hot Rodding, Hot Rod, Mustang and Fast Fords.

if you live close to me…… i still do side work pretty darn cheap compared to a mechanics shop…… ponca city oklahoma……

Q: how many km can you eventually put on a 2003 ford explorer sport?
need KM advice — theres an 03 ford explorer sport for sale, with 105 000 km on it. any advice? is this too many kms? are these vehicles reliable ? will it last me years? please, any answer helps. thank you!!!!

A: I had more than 300000 km’s on my explorer sport and traded it for 7,000 dollars on a new car. very dependable . never got stuck in heavy snow. ran like a champ and only changed the oil regularly. but i did bend the back bumper a little pulling out trees . loved that truck but I needed better gas milage

Q: I am looking to buy a used Ford Explorer. Anyone have one for sale?
Color is really not an issue unless it’s red (no red) and mileage doesn’t matter that much. However, let’s talk about price.
I’m looking in the South Central Indiana area.

A: Try looking on http://www.craigslist.org

Q: Huge Ford sale?
My friends overseas saw on TV that Ford in US is having problems and running massive sales. Like Explorer for $15k. I don’t follow this stuff and wouldn’t know even if it did. So, they want cheap Fords now

Anyway, I can’t find any info on this. Ford’s site lists Explorer starting at $26200, and cheapest new Explorer I can find on the dealership is $28k. Does anyone knows what they’re talking about? Is there such a massive sales, maybe by the factory or something?

A: Are you just looking at the sticker? That price won’t change. Inquire at the dealership or look online for specials.

Q: $3900 Ford Explorer XLT 1997 for sale in Los Angeles, CA?
Green color, 4-doors, power windows doors & mirrors, automatic, cruise control & much more. 111700 miles. You may drop me an email only if you’re a serious buyer, and I can send you some pictures upon your request.

A: your not supposed to advertise cars here, just ask questions.

you’ll have much better luck listing it on http://craigslist.org under LA also include the engine and condition, pictures are a plus!

Q: where is the best place to sale a 1995 ford explorer fast? it runs. saling it for cheap?

A: E-bay, autotrader, local newspaper, for sale in window.

Q: Trade my 04 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 2WD for 02 civic ex?
A honda dealership will do a straight trade for my ford. Is this a good trade? Private party on the honda is about $7,000 and on the ford about $12,000 both excellent. I have had my ford for sale for almost 6 months and no one will buy a 2WD ford explorer. So im just wondering if this would be a good idea.

A: nope bad idea

Q: Will a 4.0l Ford Explorer motor from an ‘01 model fit in a ‘97 model with no modifications?
I have the 4.0l V-6 motor out of an ‘01 Ford Explorer Sport for sale on a local forum, an someone is inquiring if it will fit with no modifications into their ‘97 model explorer. I’d like to get this motor out of my garage, does anyone know?
Alot of changes will have to be made? Such as?
I really don’t know the VIN code, whether it’s an E code or an X code, and there’s really no way to find out since I don’t have the truck anymore.

A: Assuming it is a 4.0L SOHC engine (eight digit of VIN ‘E’), it will fit into the engine bay of a ‘97 without much work, IF the ‘97 was also originally equipped with the 4.0L SOHC engine. The only changes needed would be all sensors and wiring from the ‘97. If the ‘97 was originally equipped with either the 4.0L OHV V6 or 5.0L V8, it will still fit BUT the entire engine wiring harness along with the PCM (and transmission if originally a 5.0L V8) will need to be changed to suit the needs of the 4.0L SOHC engine. Hope this helps.

Q: Must Sell Ford?
FORD SPORT EXPLORER FOR SALE $7,500.00 95,000 miles. Orange Keyless entry, sun roof, climate control in rear runs great new brakes and o2 sensors.
I live in Indiana.

A: I’ll give you half that-

Q: Would a 2004 Ford Explorer with only FORTY NINE miles sound off any warning bells?
A friend said they found a 2004 FORD EXPLORER with only 49 miles (Yes, double digits NOT 49,000) for sale & considering buying it. Does this sound possible?

A: since it is 5 yrs old, it would have to have been smogged at least once. If the seller can’t supply an old smog cert., get the VIN # and check it out with the gov’t smog dept. in your area. A cars mileage will have been recorded on that smog/test certificate…. Or get a Carfax report ($35)

Q: Need Advise on a Second Hand 2007 Ford Explorer XLT?
Hi there, there is a person living on my street with a 2007 Ford Explorer XLT Sport Trac for sale. I’ve been eyeing it for the past few days. Here is what is included:
Power windows & lock, cruise, air (I’m assuming conditioner), in car heater, command start, extend box bar & running boards.
The person’s asking price is $30k, I was told that it wasn’t a reasonable price.
Another factor in the price is that I live in an isolated community where the truck probably either had to a) be brought in on sealift or b) be brought in on the plane.
I’m thinking that these people are taking advantage of where we live and jacked up the price.
I was just wondering in normal circumstances, how much would that truck go for?

A: V8 4wd and 25,000 miles on the odometer: $21,755 (in excellent condition).

V8 4wd Limited Package, leather seats, Nav+Premium package: $25,855

V6 2wd 25,000miles: $19,725

Q: Replacing Key Fob for a 1999 Ford Explorer?
I just bought a used Ford Explorer, but a key fob was not given to me. I can’t imagine that It wasn’t included in the original sale. Can you get a replacement from a dealer?

A: Keyless entry is an optional feature, so it’s possible that it wasn’t included on your vehicle. If it was, then a dealer should be able to provide a replacement key fob; however, you might find it’s cheaper to have an after-market keyless entry system installed, especially if you need more than one remote.

A: different for every state on both questions.

most states are 16. california is slowly stepping up to 18 i think right now theyre at 16.5 soon to be 17. and in montana its something like 14.

i just bought a 94 eddie bauer bronco with a 5.8L engine (the big one) and in immaculate condition with 106k mi for $4800 and it runs like its brand new.

my roomate just bought a 2001 explorer for $4200 in slightly less than perfect condition with a 4.0L v6

Q: How can I find out if my used ford explorer is still under factory warranty?
I do not want to contact the Ford dealer or where I bought it from.

A: Most Ford’s come with a 3 year 36,000 or 50,000 mile warranty. If you have passed that most likely you don’t have a warranty. But whats the big deal about contacting a Ford dealer? call them, tell them the year and make and model and they can tell you for sure if you still have a warranty.

Q: Which used car would you purchase: A certified used 2006 Ford Explorer or a 2007 Ford Edge?
The Explorer has less than 21k miles and is in great condition. It’s certified used by Ford but has worse gas mileage than the Edge.

The Edge has 18k mi, but the CARFAX report shows an accident and damage to the front of the vehicle. No damage is apparent upon inspection of the car, but the extent of the damage is uncertain. I like the design of the Edge, but am reluctant due to uncertain damages.

Thoughts?

A: Without doubt , buy the Explorer , never buy a accident repaired car.The Explorer gives 18mpg
and the Edge 21 mpg , but the Explorer is more spacious, can seat 7, and is built more sturdy than the Edge, and above all its a certified vehicle.

Q: Would you buy an used Ford Explorer over Honda Odyssey?
I need a minivan desperately. I am thinking of all options… Used Sienna, Odyssey, Explorer (more of SUV than minivan), Mazda5… Not sure which one do I prefer.
I am looking to keep the vehicle for a timeframe of 1.5 years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks folks.

A: An Explorer is not a minivan at all, it’s a truck based SUV – not even remotely comparable to an Odyssey or Sienna. It doesn’t have nearly as much room as either. The upside of an explorer is you can buy used ones cheap, but they don’t get as good gas mileage as an Odyssey. The Mazda5 is a minivan, but much smaller and less roomy, and you probably won’t find many used since they haven’t been around long. If they are big enough for you, they are better on gas because of the smaller size and four cylinder engine (try to find one with a stick).

The Odyssey is probably the best minivan out there (close second to the Sienna), but if you’re just looking for a relatively short term, you can get a used Ford Windstar/Freestar for a lot less. They aren’t as roomy inside, but still roomier than the Explorer or Mazda5, and are pretty durable.

Hope this helps you

Q: Where can i get a used 1997 Ford Explorer V6 engine?
My 1997 Ford Explorer V6 engine shattered a piston and bent three con rods and valves. I need to replace it. Any ideas where i can order a good used engine from? alternatively i could rebuild it but i would need to buy the liner kit. Any ideas also where i can order the liner kit from. i would like to compare the costs of the alternatives.

A: junk yard

Q: I am looking to buy a used Ford Explorer. Anyone have one for sale?
Color is really not an issue unless it’s red (no red) and mileage doesn’t matter that much. However, let’s talk about price.
I’m looking in the South Central Indiana area.

A: Try looking on http://www.craigslist.org

Q: I bought a used 2001 Ford Explorer and it has the keypad on the door to unlock it but I don’t know the combo?
I bought a used 2001 For Explorer Sport and it has a keypad on the outside to unlock the car but I don’t know the combination. It has all of the manuels but it doesn’t say the combo.

Is there a way for me to reset it? Or can I find out what it is?

THANKS!

A: My local Ford dealer wants $25 to look up the code(but they are big Aholes).

Q: Can a 96 ford explorer wheel rims be used on a 2008 ford escape?
I have a set of 235/75r15 tires and aloy rims from a 96 Ford Explorer sport. can these rims be used on a new 2008 Escape. I would like to use them for winter tires so I just change rims rather than have to get the tires changed each season.

A: No,define’ly not.I’d better suggest you get the tires changed each season, although that maybe hectic.

Q: Opinions on buying a used 2004 Ford Explorer?
It has 4×4, 88,508 miles on it and they’re asking $8,864 for it. It looks great. Is this a good deal. Anyone had bad/good experiences owning an 04 Ford Explorer? Thanks

A: sounds like deal to me

Q: What is the average price for a quality paint job on mid-sized SUV, like a Ford Explorer?
I recently bought a used ford explorer and am not satisfied with the paint. It has chips, discoloration, etc. I was just curiuos what it would cost to get a new pant job for it.

A: if you go to someone
you know.

Just ask some
friends if they
know someone
that paints cars.

But you would
probably be lookin
at around $300-$800

Hope i helped

Q: GUYS!!! OR ANY ONE WHO NO’S ABOUT CARS. can u help me find a cheap used ford explorer engine.?
this question is not for me but its for my mom.. dos anybody no a place in louisville, elizabethtown, radcliff, or vinegrove where she would be able to find a used…2001 ford explorer engine that is a 4.0 and a 6 cylinder.. and is also a automatic 4 wheel drive… thanks for the help i really appreciate it..

A: google engineworldusa.com

Q: What do you guys think of a used ‘98 ford explorer?
1998 Ford Explorer XLT SOHO
135,000 miles
power everything
leather seats
amazing condition/ no dents or anything

but i have no idea how the engine or transmision works
and i cant afford to take it to a dealer or mechanic to check it out

so what are some common problems with fords?
and what do you think about it?

A: The biggest concern with those with the 4.0 SOHC engine was the timing chain tensioners. If you’ve got a problem with those, your best bet for repair is a dealer. There are special tools to set the timing on them, the easiest thing to check for is a ticking noise from the engine. You could also have a dealership run the VIN number and see if repairs were already made. Other than that they were really good vehicles.

Q: i need help finding a new or used 1994 ford explorer transmission?
does anyone know a site where i can find any?
ive looked everywhere and i cant find anything? :[

A: Tey your phonebook and look under junk yards or salvage yards, they will be able to either sell you one or point you in the right direction

Q: Where can i buy a new or used 2000 Ford Explorer front Bumper?
i need thissss!!!!!
I saw some on Ebay. What do they mean by covers, isnt it a bumper. And can they be trusted???

A: Ebay, or your local ford dealer can probably help you find one.

A: I have a 97 4.0 ohc with 166k miles and they only thing I don’t like is the cam tensioners, they rattle and it will cost a bundle to get them fixed, so I just keep driving it

Q: ford explorer?
i decide to buy a ford explorer , so is it good or bad car.
what about it’s maintanance and spare part price .

TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT IT. PLS!!

A: I’ve owned two, and my brother has an Explorer. late nineties shared the Mazda drive train and proved to be very reliable. I owned a two door sport and a four door Eddie Bauer edition. Liked both, and had no problems except they are hard on brake pads. They are usually nicely appointed and drive well. Gas mileage will range in the 15 to 18 miles per gallon.

Q: Can a ford Explorer pull a horse trailer?
I have ‘91 Ford Explorer, can it comfortably tow a two horse bummer pull trailer?
Will it make a difference since it is 17 years old? Still runs pretty good.

A: There shouldn’t be a problem if the vehicle has been service regularly.

Q: Why does my Ford Explorer Blow only cold air from the rear vents?
Ok, so i have a 95′ Ford explorer, eddy bouer edition, and my heaters only blow cold air from the rear vent, and the front vent’s floor vent’s or defroster’s dont even turn on. What could be wrong with it and how could i fix it?

A: You need to take it to a shop, not the dealer (they will charge you out the rear-end). Sounds like you have a bad switch.

Q: What type of freon does a 1994 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD take and how much does it cost?
My boyfriend needs to get an idea of how much it cost to replace the freon in his 1994 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD. What type does it need and how much does it cost to replace? Also is there a website I can go to to look at for info on this?

A: It doesn’t take Freon (which was the trade name for R-12) it takes Suva (which is the trade name for R-134a). It usually costs about $7-$10 for 12oz. Your car probably holds 34oz. total (2.2 lbs). To have a shop recharge the system will be anywhere from $100-$250 depending on the shop and time of year.

Q: How do I change starter on 94 Ford Explorer?
I need to change my starter on my 94 Ford Explorer. Never did this before, could someone explain the procedure to me? Any special tools needed? Do I have to jack up the motor? Thanks.

A: remove battery cable… crawl under it right side remover wire if you can then the two bolts… not hard just dont let it fall and hit you in the face… dont need anything special and you shouldnt have to jack up anything …but the truck if you want to

Q: What size battery cables on a 1992 Ford Explorer?
I have a 1992 Ford Explorer 4WD Eddie Bauer edition. I need to replace the battery cables. I went to buy some and there were a lot of different lengths. What size do I need? Is this a hard thing to replace?

A: Red positive to the starter can fight.go to a automotive parts supplier ,Car-quest/Napa.
They will place in your hand just the ones you need for your ford.
“Not autozone/checker”don’t forget the anti-corrision rings for the post and battery post sealer spray, fords tend to be bad about corrision. And the black ground also has a small wire grounded to the fender on this one.I think, disconnect black first reconnect last always.
make sure starter lead is not touching/rubbing sharp or hot parts.YOU CAN DO IT !!!

Q: My husband disabled our Ford Explorer so it will not turn over. Any ideas what he did?
When my husband gets mad at me he does something to our 2004 Ford Explorer so It will not start. The problem is that it will not turn over. I think that he does something to the fuses. I am stuck home right now trying to fix it. Please help!

A: Could be the neutral safety switch, the starter soleniod or a missing fuse.
I would first check for missing fuses.
Then check under the hood for wires pulled off the starter solenoid.
Check the battery is hooked up.

Q: 1999 Ford Explorer – why is there a small plume of smoke coming from the steering column?
Yet another Explorer question. Please note: this has only happened twice. It only happens upon inserting the key into the ignition w/o cranking. It has happened before and after the cruise control recall. The smoke comes out of the hazard lights button (surrounding hole) and the cruise control stick (surrounding hole). HELP!!!!! Akins Ford in Winder, GA says it’s unrelated to the recall. I’ve heard it’s the multifunction switch. Thoughts?
I already know there’s a colony of evil micro-gnomes living under the steering wheel and that they are plotting the downfall of my truck, so please don’t use that as an answer. I want a mechanical answer.
Mr. KnowItAll, did you know that you are absolutely no help whatsoever? Bet you didn’t. AH HA! Relinquish your title immediately.

A: Sounds like you have a bad multi-function switch. This one switch controls the hazard lights, wipers, headlamps etc. Get it replaced before it catches fire. Check the wiring too, it may be melted.

Q: What is the best way to sell my Ford Explorer?
Due to economic reasons and gas being so high, I have decided to sell my V8 ford Explorer. But I am aware that prices on overesized vehicles are going down due to the raising costs of crude. What is the best way to sell my vehicle?

A: Hopefully you don’t owe much on it. I seriously doubt you’d make enough to pay it off. I hope you’re prepared for that if that’s the case. Explorers are bringing $5-6K under what they usually bring in trade, so yes, the market has dropped considerably on them.

You can try craigslist, Autotrader, and the local paper (all inexpensive).

If you do owe quite a bit on it, and try to sell it for the amount you owe, you’ll probably find that buyers won’t even touch it. If this is the case, it’s best to just keep it and ride it out. Edmunds.com put a nice “keep it or trade it” calculator on their site for just this purpose, to show folks how much they’d save in gas and how long it would take to make up that gas savings if you lost thousands in trade/resale.

*Edit* – don’t try the “full coverage insurance, total the car in a wreck” idea. Insurance companies are on to that.

Q: How much would a used ford explorer or used truck be today? Also how old do I have to be to drive and get a job?
How old is a used ford explorer or truck today? How old do I have to be to drive and get a job?

A: different for every state on both questions.

most states are 16. california is slowly stepping up to 18 i think right now theyre at 16.5 soon to be 17. and in montana its something like 14.

i just bought a 94 eddie bauer bronco with a 5.8L engine (the big one) and in immaculate condition with 106k mi for $4800 and it runs like its brand new.

my roomate just bought a 2001 explorer for $4200 in slightly less than perfect condition with a 4.0L v6

Q: With the engine running My Ford Explorer will no longer accelerate. What could the problem be?
2004 Ford Explorer with V6. This truck has no accelerator cable. It is electronic. The accelerator stopped working while driving. The engine stayed idling after pulling off the road. When i turned the engine off it would not start.

A: soundfs like computer problems

Q: How much miles could a Ford Explorer take before you have to change the engine?
I want to by a ford explorer but don’t know how much miles it could take before buying one with too much miles on it?

A: It depends on the state the engine was in before you started driving it. Modern engines can normally take a good 200,000 before having major problems, however, you need to make sure that the oil level is sufficient and that you regularly service the vehicle to maintain the engine as best as possible. Faliure to do so will obviously decrease the ability of the engine to perform high mileage.

Q: How do you change a 1996 ford explorer exterior door handle?
I have a 1996 ford explorer sport and the exterior door handle quit working. My boyfriend is going to change it, and he’s got it loose. The only thing holding the handle in now is the clip. He can’t figure out how to get that out. He said the rod is in the way. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

A: alih1221;

The clip is plastic. Have him look for the OPEN end on the rod.
the rod will release when unlocked from the rod shaft. Once the clip swings free, the rod will come out of the metal hole. Use a straight screwdriver to push the clip from the rod.

If the door handle is broken, it is held on by rivets. They will need to be drilled and re-riveted. Takes a special rivet gun & rivets.

A: Factory wiring colors will depend on rather or not the Explorer has a factory amplified system. Hopefully you are using a wiring harness that mates up to the factory plugs and didn’t cut the wires because if it has a factory amp and you cut the plugs then your next step will be to run all new speaker wires to each speaker or to the factory amp location which is behind the right rear quarter panel trim. Also make sure you connected the factory amp remote turn on wire to the blue/white wire of the Alpine radio.

Q: how much does it cost to get the caliber on a 2002 ford explorer replaced?
i was told that i would be about $300 is that possible? i saw the calibers online for $40. so why would they charge so much?

A: The part is available online and at retailers such as AutoZone for less than $60 net. Unless your brake pads are very new, it’s advisable to change those (both sides) as well – another $35. Labor on this job should run $130 or so. With fluid, shop & environmental fees and tax, you’re pushing $260-270.

If you and/or a mechanically-inclined friend can replace brake pads, you can replace a caliper. I found guides on ehow and videos on youtube using “replacing a brake caliper” as the search argument.

Q: What do you think about your Ford Explorer?
We’re thinking about buying a 2002 Ford Explorer (V6) and we’re wondering if it’s a good vehicle. Are they dependable? What’s the gas mileage? Things like that.

We’ve read about them online and in Consumer Reports. We would like to hear from personal experience. Thanks!

A: i have had 3 explorers and currently own an ‘03 and ‘05… run great, very safe…. yes some people have problems with them but i drive mine pretty hard and one reached 200k+ miles while the others are still under 100k with few, minor, expected repairs… it has been the best selling suvs in america many years so let millions of drivers be your source

Q: Codes for a 2002 Ford Explorer?
I noticed service engine soon light on my Ford, so after hooking up a scanner the code p1400 came up. I’m having trouble finding info online, can anyone help?

A: p1400 is DPFE low voltage… meaning the sensor is sending lower voltage than normally to the PCM at idle….

DPFEs are known for issues on Ford’s… Ford has a few bulletins on the one in your explorer in fact…. Don’t come cheap but the parts guy at the Ford dealer (Only place to get yours Sorry) will know all about this gem….

Ford base number is 9J460

Q: I just took my piece of c*** 2002 ford explorer to the shop, its been making a really loud clunking soundl?
at first he thought it was the right rear wheel bearing, but called me tonight and said its my right rear axle…i have been online trying to prepare myself for the cost of the part and i cannot seem to locate it on the computer…this mechanic is gonna charge me $40 hour labor..so giving me a deal…(I hope) but can someone please find out how much the part is gonna cost? thanks!!

A: Yea if the Vech has Independent suspension it will be an Axle Half Shaft and they are around 200.00 dollars But if this Vech has a Solid axle Don’t mess around with paying for an axle and the bearing Because by this time you have spread the metal particles through out the entire Axle.. And this is Bad you can purchase a used Axle fro the junk Yard for about 150.00 and it should one take your tech about 3 hrs too change…….

Q: i want to put a cop spotlight on my 2002 ford explorer on the driver side.?
i would like to know where to buy it online, with all the mounting and tools it needs to be installed i have a installer already. budget is around 50-120$ usd

i just put 15% tint all around the car except the windshield do you think i should tint the windshield and if i do what percent.

i live in the state of virginia my car color is green.
i would like one that works. also i didnt ask if the tint was illegal i already have 15% all the way around.

A: You’re driving a cop magnet, so don’t cry when you get pulled over and get tons of fines.

Q: Why doesnt the 2003 Ford Explorer have a 3rd row seat?
I am shopping online for a used car and then I saw this 2003 Ford Explorer Xls.I automatically thought that it was 3rd row seating because all of the explorer models 2002 and up had 3rd row seats.

A: It was an option.

If you don’t need that many seats, why would you want the third row? It would just add weight and cost and reduce cargo space. That’s why Ford gave buyers a choice.

It’s still an option:

Q: What should I do to my SUV first?
I bought a 2002 ford explorer sport, not a big fan of ford but I liked the look of it and the price was right. Well I found one online and they look really nice lifted with bigger tires on them and since im moving back to arizona and do alot of offroading Im really intrested in doing this. So I was wondering what I should do first? I do want to lift it but not till I move to arizona but Im thinking of things like K&N , Exhaust and things like that.. Oh and are there any magazines that are strictly for ford explorer that I can order or something . Thanks alot

A: You can find all the info you need at ford-trucks.com.
It’s a Ford truck forum with vehicle specific forums. Registering would be an excellent opportunity to learn ALOT of info.

First things I would do is open the engine up. Intake and exhaust. Reduce friction of air intake (K&N or similar) and open the exhaust to reduce back pressure. Get a performance cat-back exhaust (Magnaflow, Borla, Bassani, Flowmaster etc.).

Q: Wheel Bearing???
What would the average cost be for repairing a Driver’s side wheel hub assembly including the labor? On a 2002 ford explorer XLT. A mechanic wanted to charge me around 500 but i seemed to find the part online for 115 bucks..Any suggestions on a good website?

A: Keep in mind that the hourly mechanic rate is anywhere from $30 to over $100 per hour…..your fix will require around 2hrs for a 2wd to 4 hours for a 4×4.<---this is an educated guess. you will also need a number of bearings, seals, specialty tools, etc to do this job.
for example(without seeing it) i would charge you around $350 for the same job. $50per hr x2 hr + $200 for parts + tax leaving a little extra for unforseen parts that you may need.
PS might wanna consider doin both sides at once to prevent the other side from doing the same thing. (if you have enough money)
