Q: 2002 Ford Explorer Engine Replacement?
My 02 Explorer was damaged in a recent flood. The water got into the engine but did not get into the interior. The insurance adjuster says that it needs a new engine and he would do some figuring and get back with me. In the mail today I received a check for $1,787 (deductable of $250) with a total of $2037. Will this $2,037 replace and install a new engine plus buy and install a new headlamp. The paper says that it will take a mechanic 8.6 hrs to do the work which they alloted $500. This just seems to be very cheap and I’m not sure I can find a mechanic to do it for that? Any ideas, I cannot drive it for estimates since it doesn’t run? Thanks, Sue
Should have added – I was driving when the rush of water came at me. I pulled over and the engine died. I left it sit and had it towed home. My neighbor removed the plugs and water shot like a geiser. It was smoking from the exhaust and had loud engine knocking.
A: 1 was irt running in the flood? if not just remove plugs and turn it over to get water out of cylinders….change oil and turn over while spraying starting fluid into air intake..90 % of time it will start and run
Q: How much can I expect to pay to get serpentine belt replaced 2002 Ford Explorer??
I was wondering how much can i expect to pay for my serpentine belt to be replaced. I had taken it to Jiffy Lube for an oil change and they told me it had some small tears and would need replaced asap. I asked them if that was the noise i had been hearing and they said yes it could have been it. They roughly quoted me 79.99 of course thats w/o labor. Does anyone know how much I can expect to pay and any possible cheap placed in Columbus, Ohio I could take it to?
Thanks
A: Jesus Christ!! Go to any parts store. It shouldn’t be more than $30. Tell Jiffy Lube to piss off! And changing the belt is relatively easy. Under the hood is a belt routing diagram. It will show you everything you need to know.
You will be charged around $45 for labor no matter where you go.
If you want to buy your own belt from place “A” and get in installed at place “B”, expect ot hear something like this: “Since thats not our part, we can’t offer any warranty on the belt. If something goes wrong, we won’t be able to help you.” Tell them thats fine. If you go to an Advance Auto Parts (not sure if they are up there) you will be offered 2 types. 1 has a 90 day warrany, the other (more $$$ and better) has a 1 year. You want that one. And if it does fail, you can make a warranty claim w/ Advance Auto. They don’t advertise this, but its a reality.
And save yourself some money and sweettalk the parts store into helping you. If they’re not busy, odds are they will help you out. I know I did
Q: 2002 Ford Explorer-extra key?
I just got it & it has a programable key>where is cheapest place to get a spare?
A: What you have is called a transponder key. The idea isn’t exclusive to Ford anymore. There are some locksmiths that do it now but for quality and expedience I’d urge you to go to the Ford shop. The cost isn’t so high and the wait isn’t as bad as you’d think as long as you have a working key that they can read and match. The real cost and wait only comes when they have to have one made from scratch.
Q: I need a complete used left door for my Ford Explorer Sport 2002?
If you have one for sale or if you know where I can find a used cheapest one in Dallas, TX.. let me know please
A: Try the salvage yards. Sometimes vehicles that are wrecked have some very good parts remaining. They may even have one in the exact color you need. Look up the salvage yards in your area and start calling. See where you can get it cheapest. Good luck.
Q: Ford explorer question please answer?
my family owns 2 cars, a 2006 pontiac g6 that my mom owns and a 2002 ford explorer my step dad owns. I was recently talking to them about what i want to do for a car, and they decided i could have the ford explorer and my step dad would buy a cheaper car for himself. all i have to do is pay for my insurance and gas for the car, they are still paying for it, like any problems (unless i cause them), and the monthly payment (i may have to pitch in a little but not a lot). I do work but i am unsure if i should take this deal or get my own car, so i need you peoples’ advice. Thanks
A: Hmmmm… Ford explorer isnt bad i guess… I’m not a big fan, but if you’re getting it for free (just paying for insurance and gas) that sounds like a good deal.
hey, it’s a your first car (I’m assuming), just take the Ford because it’s almost free! Later after you save up some more money in a few years you can buy what ever yo want! But there’s no point in spending another few thousand on another car and gas + insurance. Just take the explorer.
Q: Shopping for a new Family Car?
Ok I have been shopping for a new family car, I wanted to go with a ford explorer sport trac, but the safety reviews SUCK! Anyhow while I was shopping I found a 2002 FORD EXPLORER for 10,995 and it has 31,000 miles on it. Is it just me or is this ONE HELL OF A DEAL??? Interior and exterior looks to be in excellent condition. I am hesitant because it seems awfully cheap…….WHat do you think?
I should add that this is a dealership, not sure if it makes much difference, but it isn’t an independent seller……
The reason I am looking at ford is because I am mainly concerned with the safety rating. The EXPLORER has one of the highest marks.
3 year warranty or 36,000 miles….
A: I am POSITIVE that I just answered this question by another asker ………navigate around these questions ….. can 2 people be trying to buy the SAME 02 EXPLORER?…….Is someone selling the same vehicle to 2 different people?? are the 2 buyers related???? [ that may explain the cheap price ] maybe the seller is getting $10,995 from each of you???? I don’t know ….
Or maybe its time to turn off my computer.. I’m getting so confused… see also ….stevenk’s question earlier about a Family car
Q: A cool cheap car for guy teenager?
i think i like the gmc jimmy or the ford explorer are there any other cars like these? cars from the 1998-2002 please.
A: I’m 22 and I drive a 98 4×4 Explorer XLT 4 liter V6 and it is the best car I’ve ever owned. I’ve pushed it over 150,000 miles since I bought it and it’s still running stong as ever. I take it on long trips all the time to Colorado from Texas for skiing and stuff and the deep snow doesn’t bother it a bit. I got it for 1500 and it was the best purchase I’ve made. I’m not sure what the bluebook value is on one but I think I got a good deal. The most severe problem that I’ve had with it was that a radiator hose slipped off one time but that took about five minutes to reattach and refill. I highly highly recommend an Explorer. In terms of cars similar to that, I used to own a 91 Jeep Cherokee with a straight six that was a freakin blast to drive, but the engine block cracked and went through about a quart of oil a week and it seemed like real close quarters whenever I had four people in it. I carted five people up to Colorado just this winter in my Explorer and it was somewhat of a tight fit, but still reasonable. I’m sure a 00 Jeep Grand Cherokee would be exactly what you’re looking for, though. They’re larger than the regular Cherokee’s, nicer trim, look good, and are really hardy cars. A good friend of mine flipped his 96 Grand Cherokee and hardly suffered a scratch. He was even able to salvage the entire drivetrain and sell it minus the rear differential, and even made enough from selling the parts to buy himself another one.
Q: Advantage of 235/70/16 tires over 245/70/16?
A tire dealer says my Ford explorer has 2002 XLS has OEM Tire Sizes 235/70-16,245/70-16,245/65-17,235/65-18. The rim on my car is 16. Checked to buy new tires for the car and 245/70/16 are cheaper than 235/70/16. What is the advantage of the bigger tire to the smaller? Another dealer warned me to stick to the smaller tire. I am afraid each is encouraging me to buy what they have in stock
A: It’s best to stick with the size tire that the car manufacturer recommends Believe it or not, even the size tires on any vehicle are tied into the performance of a vehicle.
Tire size affects:
1. The handling of a vehicle.
2. The braking ability of a vehicle.
3. The gas mileage of a vehicle.
The size of a tire for a vehicle is calculated by the engineers that designed that vehicle to give you optimum performance for that particular vehicle. It is based on many factors such as the weight, height, and length of the vehicle. Also calculated is the transmission gear ratio and differential gear ratio.
Putting a different size tire on the vehicle may give you an advantage such as better handling, but will take away from other areas such as braking ability or gas mileage.
Q: Can’t decide between two cars. Both are Mazda’s. One is SUV and the other is Sedan.?
I went car shopping and ran into two Mazda’s that I really liked. The first one is a 2002 Mazda Tribute DX (manual) with about 95,000 miles on it. I saw the Carfax and wow, it was the most impressive Carfax history I’ve ever seen. The DX was only owned by 1 previous owner who changed the oil every 3,000 miles (sometimes even less) and was very good at maintaining the brakes, lights, and suspension regularly. It is manual so it gets about 20-22 mpg on the road/ 25 on the freeway. This car is listed for about $5900.
The second Mazda is a 2003 Protege (automatic) with 77,000 miles. I saw the Carfax and it wasn’t as detailed as the Tribute. It only had listings of passing emissions inspection and when it got sold to the other owners (no listings on oil changes, brakes, etc). This car does get around 30 mpg on the road and the price is $4,500.
To give a background on my situation. I am 19 years old and attending a community college about 10 minutes from my house and my job is about 15 minutes. So I don’t have to commute very far everyday.
I did like both cars very much. The Protege does have less miles, has better gas mileage, and cheaper than the Tribute. But the Tribute had an amazing Carfax report that had every detail of maintenance and only 1 previous owner (unlike the Protege which had 3). Also, I’ve been driving my mom’s 03 Ford Explorer since I was 16 so I am used to the SUV feel.
So all in all, I can’t decide. Both are great cars. If anyone can provide me with their personal opinion or advice that would be great! Sorry for the really long explanation but this will be my first car so I need all the help I can get! Thanks
A: The protege is a MUCH better deal. It’s cheaper AND newer. Frequent short drives in the DX are going to result in terrible gas mileage too.

A: i would have the Tribute checked out by a mechanic and if its good i would buy that
