Q: Should I buy a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4 Door with high mileage?
It is a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4 Door with 120,000 for $6,200. The price is kind of high but that can always be talked down. But I am worried about what problems I may have with getting a Ford Explorer with 120,000 miles.
A: Kinda high? Better do some checking. The link below is to Kelly Blue book and that vehicle with normal equipment and good condition sells privately for $4420. Even a dealer (retail price) should not exceed $6770 and that assumes the vehicle is just about perfect all around.
I used 4l V6 located in the Las Vegas market as a basis. You can check it out yourself, but that is WAY too much.
Q: Should I buy a 2002 Ford Explorer or a 1999 Range Rover?
The prices are similar between these two. The Range Rover obviously looks better, but I am getting mixed messages about it from review websites regarding reliability. Also, the Explorer has about 10,000 less miles on it. Should I take the risk of poor reliability and go for the Rover, or stay “safe” with the Explorer?
A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net
Q: I would like to buy a 2002 ford explorer sport trac?
Can any one tell me if this is a good buy? Is it realiable? Safe, overall good vehicle?
A: I did some research on the vehicle, and it seems pretty decent. Consumer reviews rated it at a 8.3, which is average. The fuel economy is rated at 16-17 mixed driving and has a 22.4 Gal. gas tank. It has a 4L Engine V6 that puts out about 210 Horsepower and 240Ft. Lbs Torque. It can Tow 5300 Lbs. I did not find anything on the safety of the vehicle, but as a truck, I can only assume it is very good. I’m sure you and others would be just find in case of any accident.
After reading customer reviews, the only main problem I came across was fading break pads/ rotors. But other then that, it seems like a pretty solid truck/SUV.
Now, your wondering if it’s still a good buy, personally I would look for another vehicle. The poor gas millage on the Ford is horrid, and to keep up with the maintenance isn’t too fun either. If your in the field for a bigger Truck/SUV, look at the Nissan Titan, but that’s just my own opinion. I hope I’ve helped somewhat. I included a link that should answer any other questions you should have.

Q: Thinking to buy Ford Explorer 2002-2005?
Hi,
I am thinking about to buy Ford Explorer 2002-2005. I live in a cold climate (MN) and want something reliable with 4wd for my family. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net
Q: Should I buy a 2002 Ford Explorer?
I am thinking of buying a 2002 Ford Explorer. It is an Eddie Bauer Addition. Very good condition with leather seats, wood accents, chrome rims, 73000 miles. The price seems very good at only $3999. Should I buy it. I heard the 2002 was a great year model for the Ford Explorer. Will I run into any problems. Is this a good deal. It also has a V8 engine, 2WD. Please don’t talk about gas prices because I don’t mind. Thanks!
It is 4WD, not 2WD, my mistake!
A: The Explorer is a nice vehicle and it seems to appear in good condition by the way you praise this particular car. I’m just curious though where you are buying it. There are lots of factors, especially gas mileage, that might influence that low price, but if this is in someone’s yard, then this concerns me a little. Ask the owner/dealer for a Carfax report to make sure that you aren’t getting a vehicle that had previous problems.
Q: Thinking about buying a 2002 Ford Explorer with 109000 miles, is this a good deal?
I’m considering buying a 2002 Explorer with 109000 miles on it, it is 4 wheel drive and has a third row seat, price asking is 5375, it seems to be in great condition, is this a good deal, how much longer is this car going to last, is it worth my purchase?

Q: Where can I buy replacement rear seating headrests for 2002 Ford Explorer XLS?
Please help. They are both broken.
A: Go to Amazon, you can get anything what you want:

Q: What products can I buy to save money on gas for a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT?
I pretty much know the obvious cool air intake and driving habits. But do those chips that advertise fuel efficiency actually work? What else could i purchase or do?
A: There’s nothing you can buy that will improve fuel economy other than a new car (and even with a gas guzzler buying a new car just to save fuel is not a good idea).
A lot of people will take your money and give you a device to put on your car that they claim will save you fuel but proper testing almost never finds any that work (lean burn does work but pollution goes way up so those are banned).
Leave it stock and use efficient driving habits. If you’re buying a new car then you can get a good one but if you don’t have any reason other than fuel consumption to replace what you’ve got then you’d waste money with a new car.
Q: Does anyone have a personal review for a 2002 Ford Explorer Limited, V-8?
Hi…we just bought a 2002 Ford Explorer Limited, V-8. We would like any positive or negative information from those that have personally owned one or from mechanics that have worked on them. Our biggest concern is in regard to the transmission. All others need not respond…Thank you.
A: There good trucks but a little hard on fuel,so whats ur concern with the transmission? Is it shifting funny like slipping, shifting real hard? You can have the fluid and filter changed to see if it helps the shifting and you did not state what it was doing so im throwing out some thoughts.Im a car dealer of 15 years and have sold a few and have not issues.
Q: Is a 2002 ford explorer with a number of engine upgrades a good buy? it has a 4.8l v8?
it is $9,500 … it is the eddie bauer edition with black 22″ IT LOOKS LIKE ITS IN PERFECT CONDITION it has around 100,000 miles. It is very nice….. It has an aftermarket exhaust and air intake as well as 6 disc changer .. it this a good buy ?
A: negative.. never buy a used ford…soo many probelms.. look for a chevy tahoe or yukon.. if it has “engine upgrades” such as an intake or a chip or something be wary of a dumb kid seling you something that he beat the hell out of… its better to buy a stocker and upgrade with high quality parts yourself.. it will pay dividends in the futre
Q: Can any one help me find a leather 2nd row seat for a 2002 ford explorer 4 door XLT
I BOUGHT A 2002 FORD EXPLORER FROM AN OWNER BUT THE CAR WAS CHEAP BECAUSE IT HAD A BAD TRANSMISION AND THE MIDDLE SEAT WAS MISSING THE GUY SAID THAT IT WOULD COST ME LIKE 600.00 BUT WHEN I ASKED IN THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME 1,000 AND I DID NOT WANT TO PAY THAT MUCH SO I AM TRYING TO FIND A CHEEPER ONE CAN ANY ONE HELP
A: personally i dont like salvage yard equipment but they are cheap-if i were you i would search www.lmctruck.com they should have the seat for about 5-700 dollars
hope this helps
Q: Do Ford Explorer have transmition Problems?
Thinking about buying 2002 ford explorer limited. But some people have said dont touch them as the transmition gets problems and they also have lighting problems. Is this true dealers or owners?
A: they are typical of these problems;
transmission bad at 60,000 miles
heater controls and heater cores 70,000 miles
front end wearing parts, 80,000 miles
Q: what kind of transmission fluid should I buy for a ford explorer sport trac 2002?
A: That would depend on which trans you have.
The correct answer can be found in your owners manual .
If you don’t have one ….here is the link for the download:
http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WO2P27/~MUS~LEN/36/02p27og4e.pdf
(See page 183)
Did you also know that many ‘02 SportTracs are E85 (alternative fuel) capable?
To see if yours is, look at the 8th character of your VIN.
If that character is a “K” then yours is a flex-fuel vehicle and you should also read the chapter about fuel, (page 169)
You can save the manual that I supplied to your computer for future reference.
I’m going to supply the maintenance schedule & warranty guide as well for you b’cuz they are also very important.
Maint. schedule:

You are probably still covered under the emissions warranty:
