Q: i bought a used 1999 ford explorer and it only has one leaf on each side of the rear is that normal?

A: IF ITS THE TWO DOOR SPORT MODEL YES IT HAS ONLY 1 SPRING IN THE REAR THE 4 DOOR MODEL HAS THE FULL SET IN THE REAR.YOU CAN BUY AFTER MARKET SHOCKS FROM MONROE THAT HAVE COIL SPRINGS OVER THE SHOCKS TO HELP WITH HAULING AND TOWING.I PUT THEM ON MY 99 AND IT RIDES SO MUCH BETTER.

Q: Replacing Key Fob for a 1999 Ford Explorer?
I just bought a used Ford Explorer, but a key fob was not given to me. I can’t imagine that It wasn’t included in the original sale. Can you get a replacement from a dealer?

A: Keyless entry is an optional feature, so it’s possible that it wasn’t included on your vehicle. If it was, then a dealer should be able to provide a replacement key fob; however, you might find it’s cheaper to have an after-market keyless entry system installed, especially if you need more than one remote.

Q: Where is the code on my 1999 Ford Explorer?
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer and when i bought it from a used dealer i asked him what the keypad code for the door locks was and he said he was unsure and he said the code is on a sticker next to the jack in the back. i looked back there and couldnt find a code. Is there any other way to find out this code?

A: I had the same question when I got my 1999 ford explorer used. You can find it printed on a sticker on the computer, located behind the inside panel in the rear quarter driver side…..at least this is where it is located on my 1999 EB 4-door explorer.

So next to the jack “yes” behind the panel just in front of the jack.

Q: Best Check Engine Light Scanner for 1999 Ford Explorer?
I been checking my codes with the Auto Zone OBD scanner and I was told that it does not provide the exact codes for my 1999 Ford Explorer. I had oxygen sensors codes show up when I used the Autozone scanner and I’ve changed the sensors twice. Would anyone know which Check Engine light scanner is best for my 1999 Ford Explorer? Also, I’ve only found three sensors under my car two near the engine Bank 1 and bank 2. and the other before the Catalyst converter. I was not able to locate the fourth bank 1 oxygen sensor. can someone tell me where its at?

A: On a V-6 or V-8 engine youshould only have three O2 sensors. One on each pipe or exhaust manifold coming out of the engine and one after the catalytic convertor.

Most O2 sensors will outlast an enigne or go 100K-200K miles. There are many things that can give a false reading to make it read an O2 sensor.

If you do not stay on top of oil changes or tune ups or there is significant oil usage from wear and tear these mechanical and chemical changes (dirty nasty oil) will give false O2 sensor readings.

Best ot have a full engine diagnostic to get the whole picture before spending anymore money on parts you don’t need.

Good Luck!

Q: what weight oil should I use in a 1999 ford explorer automatic, V6 engine, summer? winter?

A: Use what the engine calls for….. I believe this one calls for 5w/30 and that is year around.

Q: Is DexMerc ok to use as an Automatic Transmission Fluid in a 1999 Ford Explorer?
This is what I was given at Auto Zone.

A: On page 248 of your owners manual, it says that your vehicle takes Motorcraft
MERCON ATF, so you have the correct fluid.

Don’t have an owner’s manual? Download it here http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WOXEXP/~MUS~LEN/42/99expog1e.pdf for free

Q: Gear selection lag after ATF and Filter change Ford Explorer 1999?
I dropped the pan and changed the ATF filter and ATF oil on my Ford Explorer 1999 5 speed Auto box. It says on the stick to use Mercon V but I used Mercon only spec fluid. Now when engaging drive it takes about a second instead of instantly as before the change in fluid. It has 60,000 kms and the transmission ran perfectly before the change. It does not always hesitate but seems to do that just a few minutes after starting. What could have caused this?
Thanks.
PROBLEM SOLVED – THE O RING ON THE FILTER HAD SOMEHOW GOT TORN – AND BROKE. IT IS BRAND NEW. WHEN I REMOVED THE PAN A SECOND TIME, I USED THE OLD O-RING. SEEMS TO WORK OKAY THESE FEW DAYS!!

A: Ford transmissions are very sensitive and if you use anything other than whats recommended for the trans it will damage the trans. If it says use Mercon V and you used another Mercon fluid or a Mercon trans fluid immitator then you are damaging the trans. Secondly did you use the correct filter and ensure that it is firmly in place? Also ensure that the trans is not leaking fluid from any of the seals as low trans fluid will cause the trans to be damaged.

Q: Will 225/60-15 fit on stock 1999 Ford Explorer rims that use 235/75-15 tires?
I need smaller tires inorder to secure a trailer rental to tow my Explorer.

A: The tires will fit; however, I would not keep them on there for long. The 225/60 are narrower and shorter…more “low profile.” The explorer need the correct tires for better gas mileage, rollover, and to keep the speedometer working properly. Now as for Donnie Darko there the bolt pattern dosent really affect the tires that are going on the explorer, and second the correct bolt pattern is 5 lug by 4 1/2. The 5×20 is METRIC……

Q: Is this a reasonable price for 2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer?
Is this a reasonable price for 2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer?
Used 2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer, w/ 82,300 miles,
Engine: 4.6L 8 cyl FI
Cylinders: 8
Fuel Type: Gasoline
Transmission: Automatic
Drive Wheels: 4WD

The price tag on the Explorer is $10,999. If I offered them $9,200- $9,300(excluding the tax, and other things) in cash will they take it? I don’t think it is worth 11 grand. What is a reasonable price to offer to them for this? Ford Explorer are knwn to have many problem with the transmission with this kind of mileage also the transfer case and both of those are a pain to change because I had a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT. I don’t feel 11,000 is worth it for this Ford Explorer. How much should I offer them? AM I offering too much? I also looked at the website care complaints and other people have had problem with this vehicle as well. I was thinking if they tried to say “oh this is a great vehicle and what not” I am going to ask them to extend the 1 month or 1,000 miles which ever come first warranty. If the vehicle is as good as they say than it shouldn’t be a problem.

A: This SUV is only worth $9725 dollars by edmunds.com, you should find the price of other Explorers of the same trim level. Then try to balance how much you should offer. But this SUV has transmission and brake problems, you can find much better SUVs elsewhere, especially for your price range. If it were me, even if i could get it for 9 grand, i still would not buy it. I hope eventually you find something.

Q: 1999 Ford Explorer. What type of gas should I use? Unleaded? Premium? Which type is best for my Explorer?

A: It was designed to run on regular unleaded fuel so recommend you just put that in, that is the way it is setup so premium isn’t a good idea.

Q: Program a Remote Key Fob on a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT?
Hey, I just got a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT. This car is AMAZING, I love it! The only downfall is that the dealer-ship couldn’t find the second Remote Control to LOCK/UNLOCK the doors. :( So I had to buy one from Ebay and I need to know how to program it so I may use it… Any one know how?? PLEASE HELP

A: If I’m right put the key in the ignition, turn it on and off 8 times, wait to hear the door locks, lock and unlock, then press the lock button on the remote, then turn off the key.
Remember the door locks have to lock and unlock to let your program the remote.

Q: 1999 ford explorer + Cabin Air Filtration System?
There is a smell when I use the Air conditioning and I can’t figure out where it is coming from. Is there a Cabin Air Filtration System? Where is the filter? What else can cause this?

A: The smell is probably mildew. Get a can of Lysol, turn on the ac. with fan on high. Spray the Lysol down into the vents out by your windshield wipers. That should kill the mildew.
