used 1999 Ford Explorer for sale
A: Keyless entry is an optional feature, so it’s possible that it wasn’t included on your vehicle. If it was, then a dealer should be able to provide a replacement key fob; however, you might find it’s cheaper to have an after-market keyless entry system installed, especially if you need more than one remote.
Q: What would be the best exhaust kit to put on my truck after I put on Edelbrock Shorty Headers?
Alright I am panning on putting headers on my 2003 Ford F-150, 5.4L V8, FX4. Nothing done to the truck except for just a K&N air filter, not the cold air intake just the filter. I will be putting on the cold air intake kit later on, also with a edge programmer. I found some headers on Craig’s list for sale that were never used that fit ford trucks with a 5.4L from years 99-03. They are $200. They are called Edelbrock Shorty Headers #65633. I’m just going to paste what the ad said onto here…”NIB: Edelbrock Shorty Headers #65633. Direct replacement fit 1999-2003 F150, F250, Explorer with 5.4L V8, EGR, no air ride suspension. 50 state smog legal accepts factory emission equipment. TI-TECH coated for long lasting durability. Direct replacement for restrictive stock exhaust manifolds. Simple installation using stock crossover pipe. Mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted flow and more power. Includes all mounting hardware and gaskets. New in box. Never mounted.” Will these headers give me more power or are they practically just going to replace my stock headers with giving me no increase in power or sound? What does TI-Tech coated mean…like chrome? Are these good headers for the price? Will they give me a deep sound tone like a bubbling sound or just stock? I want a deep tone sound while idling, but when I punch it I want it to roar! Also and my final question what should I put on after the headers? I no I can’t straight pipe the truck…way to loud, but cool. I found what this guy did with his 5.4 but it had hooker headers “hooker headers 2 to 1/2″ pipe to 2 single in single out flowmaster super 40s, magnaflow tips.” My real question is I don’t know what would sound better a 2 inch single in single out cherry bomb glass pack or a 2 inch single in single out flowmaster super 40 but I don’t think I’ll put the magnaflow tip on though. Please answer ALL of my questions, I no alot about engines but not that much about exhaust…PLEASE HELP ME!!! Thank You to all who answer!! Open to all Suggestions!
A: 2″ on that displacement is wrong. On a N/A v/8 you want at least 2.5 closer to 3″ nothing above. Typical shorty headers are FACTORY direct replacements meaning you don’t have to replace other exhaust components. If that’s what they are all you need to do is replace the remainder of the exhaust with a new cat-back and high flow downpipe/cat. Should be available somewhere.
TI-Tech probably means it’s some sort of titanium coating but not actually titanium…meaning they’ll be strong and less prone to rust. (Can’t say just basing on what you said). Usually replacing steel with stainless will get you a little boost in power due to flow and bigger diameter. You generally get the most power from the replacement of the cat with a different unit (usually “high flow”) it reduces the back pressure so you shouldn’t really bump up the diameter of the piping (more than .5″) or remove mufflers/resonator. Just my opinion… The best mufflers you can get are Borla which will dampen the noise (magnaflow is okay but too rumbly); usually a crisp note. Cherry Bomb and flowmaster are a bad idea if you don’t want to lose your hearing/the cops pay attention to exhaust violations. Tips don’t do anything except improve the look.
But it’s up to you.

A: Ok, so your learning about horse power and started with a K&N, Good.
Now then, Breathing is Everything! (when it comes to the ponies and torque)
Put a straw in your mouth and breath thru it. That’s what you engine is doing through the stock system. How much Power can your body make breathing this way?
Put the Cold Air Intake on NOW!
Now on to the Headers.
TI-Tech coated; probably like a powder coating but not a ceramic which is best for heat purposes.(I’m assuming this because of the price)
Any aftermarket Headers vs stock exhaust Manifolds. Will increase Horse Power and Torque by equalizing the back pressure to the individual cylinders. (Only a 2 stroke engine requires back pressure.) Long tube (each tube of equal length, not all are made this way) ceramic coated Headers are the best.
Headers have little to do with the “loudness” of the sound but does change the note a little.
Here’s the exhaust plan;
Headers,
Hi Flow Cat’s!!! Yes 2 of them (you probably only got 1 now).
2″ X pipe exhaust tube (balances the pressures of the left and right banks)
Cherry Bombs or Purple Horney’s are Loud.
A baffled muffler like a Magnaflow or Flowmaster will give a good note and doesn’t hinder the flow like glass-packs do.
Tips are up to you as they really don’t do anything but look cool in the right application.
Ceramic coated headersand exhaust pipes are the Best. They keep the fumes Hot so they escape/move faster and prevent corrosion.
Between the cold air intake and headers/exhaust, expect a 25 to 30% increase in HP.
And as a bonus, expect a Increase in Fule Economy (better milage!) as well.
Have Fun!!!
Next thing is Ignition, I like MSD’s 6A box but I have a distributor.
Start picking up some mags like Popular Hot Rodding, Hot Rod, Mustang and Fast Fords.
