Q: what axle do they put under a 1999 ford explorer sport?
its a 1999 explorer sport (the 2dr) with the 4.0 OHV engine in her.
i need to know the axle ( i think its the ford 8.8) and i need to know the spline count. im trying to find locking hubs for her so if you have a link for ones that work/fit?
thanx!
A: It’s the 8.8 inch with 31 spline axles. But that’s on the rear. The front (which I’m assuming you’re looking for since you mentioned you’re after locking hubs), is a completely different animal, It’s a SLA setup. I’m not sure what the size the ring gear is in the center section or why it’s even relevant if you’re just doing hubs.
Q: Why does my 1999 Ford Explorer’s air conditioner shut off/switch to defrost when going uphill?
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer. When I drive it uphill, or put the engine under even moderate load, the air conditioner switches from blowing through the normal vents into the defrost. I have taken the car to a couple of different mechanics who have been unable to solve it.
Thanks for your help!
A: there’s a vacuum hose off or pinched or it could be a vacuum leak
Q: What is the cruise controls beside a steering wheel on a 1999 Ford Explorer called?
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer, and my cruise control pieces on either side of the steering wheel are getting worn out. I want to replace them. What are they called? What’s the easiest way to replace? Sources please. Thanks!
A: New switch pods are available from Ford, & the cost depends on weather your have the stereo controls in the switch pod along with the cruzz. The pods are held into the rubber steering wheel cover by just the rubber itself, no other fasteners. Take a pocket knife, slip it between the pod & the rubber, and slowly pry the pod out. I got new pods for my ‘02 Merc, with the stereo controls in the pod, for about $120 directly from Ford. I replaced the original pods with the new ones in the Ford parking lot.
Q: Where can I find a schematic of the lock system for a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport?
We have a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport, and the drivers’ side lock has stopped unlocking when we press the button – you have to crawl through the passengers’ side and pull the handle to open the door. My father said that he could fix it if he had a schematic of the locking system, but I can’t find it online. Could anyone provide me with one, or advie pertaining to the situation?
A: try INFO@AHDOL.COM ive had real good luck with them-hope this helps==
Q: How do i take out my stock radio in my 1999 ford explorer to put a aftermarket deck in?
How do i take out my stock radio in my 1999 ford explorer to put a aftermarket deck
A: You need a Ford Radio removal tool. See pic in link below.
P.S. Are you removing an RDS CD-Cassette Radio? Does your display work? My unit’s display works when it feels like it. Same with the volume control. It’s a great radio when it works, unfortunately that is only about 25% of the time.
Q: what do i need to lift my 1999 ford explorer?
Im looking to lift my 1999 ford explorer. Im not exactly sure how to go about it,kinda a newbie to it. Its a 4wd. Just wondering what kind i should get and what tires are best recommended. Im thinking a 2-3″ lift. Oh and also a price range would be greatly appreciated.
A: To get 2 inches out of it, all you need to do is crank the torsion bars, install low profile bump stops and have it aligned. It will clear 33″ tires with minor trimming.
Torsion crank…..free
low profile bumps…$35
alignment…..$45
If you want to go higher, you will need a drop down type lift and they start around $1200 plus another $400-$600 to install it.
Or a 2″ body lift, but they are not good if you want to off road the explorer.
Q: Can you replace the steering rack SEALS on a 1999 ford explorer XLT?
The steering rack seals on my 1999 ford explorer XLT are leaking. Everywhere i look online has replacement steering racks but no replacement seals as such. Can this part only be replaced or can the seals be changed?
A: NA
Q: Best Check Engine Light Scanner for 1999 Ford Explorer?
I been checking my codes with the Auto Zone OBD scanner and I was told that it does not provide the exact codes for my 1999 Ford Explorer. I had oxygen sensors codes show up when I used the Autozone scanner and I’ve changed the sensors twice. Would anyone know which Check Engine light scanner is best for my 1999 Ford Explorer? Also, I’ve only found three sensors under my car two near the engine Bank 1 and bank 2. and the other before the Catalyst converter. I was not able to locate the fourth bank 1 oxygen sensor. can someone tell me where its at?
A: On a V-6 or V-8 engine youshould only have three O2 sensors. One on each pipe or exhaust manifold coming out of the engine and one after the catalytic convertor.
Most O2 sensors will outlast an enigne or go 100K-200K miles. There are many things that can give a false reading to make it read an O2 sensor.
If you do not stay on top of oil changes or tune ups or there is significant oil usage from wear and tear these mechanical and chemical changes (dirty nasty oil) will give false O2 sensor readings.
Best ot have a full engine diagnostic to get the whole picture before spending anymore money on parts you don’t need.
Good Luck!

Q: Why won’t my 1999 ford explorer start after it rains?
I own a 1999 ford explorer. I recently had a tuneup, but now when i try to start it, it cranks but does not turn over. It seems to coincide with the rain, this is the second time it has happened, the first time two days ago(also after rain), it took 6 minutes or so to start. What could be wrong?
A: I sell cars so here it goes. Well first of all the key is your recent tune up. Make sure the wires are pushed all the way down snug over the spark plugs. Make sure that when they did the tune up they also changed the wires. Some people/places just do the spark plugs but new plugs with old wires will cause what you are experiencing. Worn wires are very susceptible to moisture and the moisture in the air wont let the spark from the plug go through the wires to the engine. A full tune up is wires, spark plugs, distributor and cap. Some cars have coil packs.
Q: Where is the code on my 1999 Ford Explorer?
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer and when i bought it from a used dealer i asked him what the keypad code for the door locks was and he said he was unsure and he said the code is on a sticker next to the jack in the back. i looked back there and couldnt find a code. Is there any other way to find out this code?
A: I had the same question when I got my 1999 ford explorer used. You can find it printed on a sticker on the computer, located behind the inside panel in the rear quarter driver side…..at least this is where it is located on my 1999 EB 4-door explorer.
So next to the jack “yes” behind the panel just in front of the jack.
