Q: Does anyone know where I can find, which other front end parts will fit my 1999 ford explorer?
I need to replace front grill and lights but don’t know if 1997 parts match up thx

A: Yes, the front end parts were the same from 1995 to 2001.

Q: online repair manual for a 1999 Ford Explorer and exploded parts detail?
remove dash and center console parts for repair or replacement

A: The only thing available on-line is by subscription. There is no FREE information. It is available only from the manufacturers, and they charge dearly for it.
You can go here——>

http://www.eautorepair.net/

…and for an annual subscription, you have availability of ALL the published repair information for your car, including diagnostics, repair, remove/replace, illustrations, diagrams, recalls, TSBs etc.
Very good resource. It is virtually the same thing we professionals use, but limited to one car.

Good Luck

Q: how much is it for parts on a 1997-1999 ford explorer? if i need to repair is it alot? ?
how much cause i am looknig in to getting 1997-1999 ford explorer thanks

A: I have had Ford Explorers for 12 years – a 1991 Eddie and the a 98 XLT which now has 205,000 miles on it.

I do lots of the work myself and consider the prices for parts to be ‘fair’. If I but Ford parts then I expect to pay highly – front drive shaft $600 for example. If I can buy aftermarket parts then I expect to pay less – front disk pads $30 a set for example.

The cheapest item I was most surprised about were the chassis parts I needed on my 91 which cost me about $60 from Ford. Sure they were only bent bits of steel, but I really expected to be ripped off. I wasn’t.

Ford being US made they will cost less than for example a Toyota or a Citroen.

I hope that is some help.

Q: Good website for headlights for a 1999 Ford Explorer?
The deal is going to charge us an arm and a leg for the lightbulb for my Explorer. Can you suggestion a good cheap website for Ford parts?

A: If you just need the lightbulb, go to walmart or something. If you need the whole thing, go to a salvage yard

Q: Can you replace the steering rack SEALS on a 1999 ford explorer XLT?
The steering rack seals on my 1999 ford explorer XLT are leaking. Everywhere i look online has replacement steering racks but no replacement seals as such. Can this part only be replaced or can the seals be changed?

A: NA

Q: Where on the internet could I download a free repair manual for a 1999 Ford Explorer?
I got some problems with my Explorer and I want to fix them myself. I want to see if there is a way to get a free repair manual instead of having to go to an auto parts store to buy one.

A: You can’t download the entire manual, but you can go to autozone.com and find the manual (I’m pretty sure) online there. Try the fllowing link, http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=RG001&UserAction=beginRepairGuide
Then go from there. Good luck!

Q: 1999 ford explorer fuel pump relay part# and location and is it the same as blower motor relay?

Q: A cigarette lighter in my Ford Explorer 1999 is missing an inner part completely. What should I buy to fix it?
I wanted to buy a GPS, and discovered that a cigarette lighter in my car is empty. So, to be able to charge it, I have to fix a lighter first.

A: You should be able to buy a replacement part at any car parts store like autozone or your local ford dealer. The replacement shouldn’t be difficult. Be sure to check the fuse panel and make sure you have a fuse installed to protect anything you plug into the outlet.

Q: What is the procedure in replacing the ac evaporator in a 1999 Ford Explorer 4wd xlt ohc?
How long does this usually take? What is the cost with parts and labor roughly?

A: The evaporator case must be removed, opened up, and the core replaced. It’s all under the hood but for one bolt. Takes about three hours. Probably $600-$700 roughly. With dealer parts and labor. $400-$500 with aftermarket and non-dealer labor.

Q: 1999 Ford Explorer leaning in the left rear?
I know it isn’t the air pressure. The ride seems fine. Is it my struts/shocks? How much for parts? Is it a DIY job?
Great answers from all of you.

However, you all seem to be split amongst springs and shocks….

Reneet8 – How would I have known you were a girl? Your avatar and your name are pretty androgynous. :-)

A: Your explorer has coil springs in the front and leaf springs in the rear. No struts. It sounds as if the left rear multi- leaf spring set has lost tension or may have a broken leaf in the center mount. You could replace just the left side but run the risk of a low right side after replacing the left rear spring.

Q: how do I find the engine code on 1999 ford explorer 4 wheel drive? The vin number is on the dor jam.?
i need to know so I can order part.

A: The eighth character from the left is the engine code. If it’s an ‘X’ , that’s an OHV V6. If it’s an ‘E’ , it’s a SOHC V6.

Q: Can I switch my 1999 Ford Explorer XLT from fuel injected to carburated?
I am asking this because I was looking at a kit that I can get for my 5.0L v8 that has the cam, intake and heads from summit racing, but it says that it is set up for carburated. What would I have to do to get this kit to work for my engine? Here is the link for the kit. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D2091&FROM=MG

A: You would only need the cylinder heads and cam shaft and you could leave your fuel injection on. It will save you some money and be a fairly simple bolt on. The engine won’t care if it is fuel injected or carb. however there may be some issues with the wiring for the transmission if you convert to carb. Carb conversion raises to many hassles in my book.

Q: How to fix a timing chain rattle on a 1999 Ford Explorer SOHC 4l V6?
I have one of these and did the whole timing chain – spockets – chains – gaskets etc and cost me more than $2,000 but the problem is now fixed and it is a joy to drive. Fortunatley or unfortunatley bought another with the same engine rattle on startup – but much less noise – the first car had all good looking removed parts that is chains, sprokets, but the mechnic did not give me back the tensioners – my question is can this problem be fixed by simply replacing the tensioners only? This one has half the mileage at only 55,000 km.
And does someone have the procudure for the shortest way to do that by myself?
Can changing the oil viscosity fix this problem?
The last time it was in the garge for 4 months!!!!!!! Hence my fear.
Any and all help appricated.
For those of you interested on my post of not firing on left bank – the exhust values were bent when doing the timing chain swap.
Thanks at least half the responses pointed that out – thorugh a compression test.
Thank you in advance

A: Type in “serious explorations” – there are TONS of explorer sites. Ford had a redesigned tensioner that threaded into the engine that would usually take care of the rattle if the inside parts were’nt damaged yet.

Q: How hard is it to replace the center console in a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport?
I’d like to have a small lockable area in the car so I dont have to worry about locking the doors but still have a small safe storage. This comes in handy camping/at the shore.

I thought either the center console (seems do-able) or the glovebox (probably not so much) are my best replacement options (and the console is falling apart a bit). My two concerns are finding the part, which should be possible but not sure where to start, and then obviously the labor.

Anyone done a job like this before?

A: pretty freakin hard
