Q: What would look better a all black 1997 ford explorer or an all white with black rims explorer?
I want to know what would look cooler a blacked out “murdered out” 1997 Ford explorer all black no chrome or only a little. Or would it look cooler if it was all white with black rims and a little bit of black where the chrome was.

A: the murdered out look is played out.. im starting to see more flat white cars with flat black wheels now

Q: Does the 1997 Ford Explorer have shoulder-belt style seat belts in the backseats?
We are looking at buying a 1997 Ford Explorer and have two children in booster seats. We just want to be sure that they are secured properly.

A: I believe that they do but if you have the VIN number just call the vehicles manufacturer and ask them.

Q: How is the engine in a 1997 Ford Explorer?
I am going to buy a 1997 Ford Explorer with 51,000 miles on it. It has a V8 AWD engine. How is the pick up in this car. How much horsepower does it have. It is a truck engine so I am thinking it must be powerful. Also, how does it compare to the V6 engine. Thanks!
It is a 5.0L V8.

A: aaaahhhhh the v8 all wheel drive ford explorer. nice all wheel drive system on them, viscous coupling drive the same as the subaru’s i believe. well, you’re looking at a triton 4.6 liter v8 with about 215 horsepower AT THE WHEELS, or should i say split between all 4 wheels. This is a nice power plant compared to the 4.0 liter v6 which on a good day pounds out 177 to 182 horses at the wheels. This should shave a little time off your 0 to 60 total. I was decently impressed with the v6 performance in the two door explorers (moderately quick and responsive), so i can imagine the v8 in the 4 door AWD model would be quite quicker.

Q: How much could I get for a 1997 Ford Explorer; trading in to a dealership for cash?
As said, my car is a 1997 Ford Explorer. It’s driveable, given it needs some work considering its age. It’s got about 250k on it, good condition. Any ideas?
The sites not working for me. :(

A: A realistic retail price on that truck with the high miles is anywhere from $2000 to $3500 depending on the condition.

Trade in value at a dealership would be half of that…probably between $1000 and $2000.

You are much better off selling that truck yourself on autotrader.com, craigslist.com, ebay.com or your local newspaper. Putting a For Sale sign on the truck would help too.

Q: i have a 1997 Ford Explorer and it is makinga clicking/ ticking sound inside and out only when i accelerate?
i have a 1997 Ford Explorer and it is makinga clicking/ ticking sound inside and out only when i accelerate. i want to stop it from ticking. What do i need to look for. i think it might be an exhaust leak. but yeah i need some help.

A: The engine is not receiveing enough gas try cleaning your fuel lines with a fuel cleaner from an auto store.

Q: what does a Transmission sensor do in a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT?
my 1997 Ford Explorer XLT will not go move backwords. It will go frontward, but when put into reverse it just will not move. Someone said it might be my range sensor. What is that and what is its function?

A: They sense temperture, gear shift selection, and shift points for automatic trans.
Suggest you park facing forward until you see a mechanic.

Q: What are some adjustments I can make to the engine of my 1997 Ford Explorer?
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer 5.0L V8 AWD. I want to make some adjustments to the engine to increase the power and horse power. I have heard of something the explorer has that is used in the mustang but the mustang one you have to buy and for the explorer, its already in there. I want an inexpensive way to increase horsepower and i Know i can for this car, but how? Thanks!

A: here are the simple and easiest improvement for your 5.0, first K&N air filter, more HP? go w/ K&N air induction, now you are breathing better, next get rid of the waste(exhaust) X pipe or dual exhaust, also dump the cats if your state does not require emission testing, then any high flow muffler, then the next step burn all that new fuel completely, larger plug wires, brass/copper distributor cap and a hotter coil (msd), the last thing would be a power chip for the computer, these are my simple mods i offer all the time!!

Q: what tool do you need to get the spark plug out on a 1997 ford explorer?
I need to know how to remove the spark plug from a 1997 ford explorer single overhead cam v6 4.3 liter.
Is there a special tool, and is it possible to get to it?

A: I had a ‘96 w/4.0L OHV and a ‘98 w/ 4.0L SOHC. Both of these required no special tool, but you could only access the rear passenger plug by jacking the vehicles and going in thru the fenderwell.

Q: Where can i get a used 1997 Ford Explorer V6 engine?
My 1997 Ford Explorer V6 engine shattered a piston and bent three con rods and valves. I need to replace it. Any ideas where i can order a good used engine from? alternatively i could rebuild it but i would need to buy the liner kit. Any ideas also where i can order the liner kit from. i would like to compare the costs of the alternatives.

A: junk yard

Q: How to fix license plate lights on a 1997 Ford Explorer?
Hi Guys,

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer. I didn’t know you could twist the pigtail in the back to replace the light. So, what I did was I took a straight bladed screwdriver to the black cover thing for the light and took it off. Now, I had no problem taking it off, but how exactly do you put it back on again? Is it held together by some sort of glue because I never seen any other way it would have attached to the bumper. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A: It should snap back in, but if the tabs are broke then use an 5 min epoxy that dries clear to glue it on.

Q: Does someone know how to remove a CD changer from a 1997 Ford Explorer?
1997 Ford Explorer with a 6 CD changer located in the center console has stopped working. Any ideas on how to test to see what’s wrong or remove so that I can replace? Thanks

A: if the radio display shows NO DJ NO CD check all the wire and connections

if the cd changer checks all the 6 disc and tells you NO DISC NO CD it is a bad cd changer and needs to be replace
there is nothing wrong with the magazine

remove the coin holder ,remove 2 screws on front of console and 2 behind
pull the cd changer 4 inches at front and unplug now you can remove

cd changers you can use

Q: Interchangeability of 1997 to 1998 Ford Explorer Sport glass?
Will the rear quarter panel glass from a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport be a perfect fit for a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport ?

Thanks.

A: The dealership would have to look up both part numbers to be sure they were the same.

Q: How powerful is a 5.0L V8 engine in a 1997 Ford Explorer?
I am buying a 1997 Ford Explorer tomorrow and I want to know how powerful the engine is. It is a 5.0L V8. How is the pick-up/acceleration? Will it be good on the highways if I need to pass someone up. Thanks!

A: well the mountaineers and ford explorers came with the ford gt40p heads. this makes mustang lovers cringe because mustangs didn’t come with them. they are a common upgrade from the H.O.heads that mustangs come with. That, along with the HO intake that it comes with, i believe it is rated at around 240hp stock which is about 20hp more than the 90s mustangs tha have the same motor..the 4.0 liter was just fine for it and that 5.0 is really an overkill, but it will tow pretty hefty boats and trailers (with some helper springs) if your into that. hope this helps.

Q: 1997 ford explorer blinking overdrive light?
I have a 1997 Ford explorer 4×4 with an automatic tranny. For some reason it wont go into overdrive and the overdrive light keeps blinking. Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem?
And please don’t tell me to disconnect the negative battery cable because that didn’t work. Please only answer me if you have some genuine insight and can help.
