Q: 1994 ford explorer engine part?
I have been searching in vain for a part for my 1994 Ford Explorer V-6 4.0L engine. It is a steel line that goes from the EGR down to the exhaust, I would guess about 14″ long. Does anyone know where I can find a parts breakdown, so I can get a part# to order it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Wayne

A: Try fordpartsandaccessories.com at the top left of the page you can search your vehicles parts with alot of pics.

Q: I have a 1994 Ford Explorer with an acceleration issue.?
I have a 1994 Ford Explorer. For the most part it runs decent. However, when I come out of braking or when I am driving it there will be some hesitation when I accelerate. This causes me to have to push harder on the gas making the car do a slight skid. Or, if I am at a light on an incline or something when this happens the car will just roll backwards. Please HELP!!!

A: without a more detailed description, i’d guess a few things. Maybe the idle controller is not functioning properly, causing the car to idle too low and taking an extra second or so to accelerate. Also, it could be that you are low on transmission fluid or the torque converter is damaged, which would cause the gears only to engage when a higher RPM is reached, which would explain the tire chirp when the gear finally engages. check the tranny fluid first.

Q: Can a Mitsubishi transmission fit on a 1994 Ford Explorer?
My dad’s transmission went out last week, and he’s been looking everywhere for an affordable replacement. He went to a junk yard yesterday and came up empty handed, but the owner said something interesting. He claims that Mitsubishi parts can fit on certain Ford models. Is this true?

A: No. Like Mustang pointed out. That would be true for some Chrysler’s but not Ford.

The Mazda Navajo transmission would fit though. Its the same truck and in case you wondered they are partly owned by Ford.

Q: ford explorer part name? 1st gen first 1993 1991 1994 1992 generation?
i need to know the name of the strip of metal that runs between the grille and front bumper on my 1993 ford explorer as i’m looking to replace it. thanks

A: According to the L M C Truck catalog, it’s called a stone deflector. It’s part # 50-9057 in the catalog and costs $29.95. If you are looking for one at a salvage yard, you can use on from an ‘89-’92 Ranger or ‘89-90
Bronco II as well as a ‘90-’94 Explorer, unless you have an Explorer Limited.

Q: Help finding a good engine for my 1994 ford explorer?
Hello, I have a 1994 Ford explorer Eddie Bauer. It currently has a V6 with a 3 Speed Automatic Transmission, it has 4WD on the fly and all that good stuff. I want to eventually do a complete overhaul on this truck, But I need some advice. Well I want to know what is the biggest V8 engine that would be appropriate for a 4WD SUV, I originally wanted a BOSS 302 but everyone told me I wouldn’t get the low end out of it that i would need for a truck. I also wanted to completely upgrade the transmission and the 4WD system, but I want to make sure the 4WD is electronic and on the fly like the one I have now. The main reason I want to change the 4WD system Is because I have heard the there are plastic parts in the hubs on the ‘94 that tend to break very easily. Well I suppose I’m pretty much looking to completely change out the drive train. If anybody could recommend the best parts for me any help would be much appreciated. When It comes to drives train i don’t know jack, everything else like suspension i pretty much have covered. Luckily I have a friend who is a mechanic and he will help me install everything but as far as what I want to put in it he said that’s up to me, he never recommends parts to friends, I don’t know why. But I basically just want this truck to be as powerful as i can get it.

A: 351w is the largest you can drop in there.there is a guy on cardomain.com that has done this.these trucks are monster s with a v8.i wish ford did that when they were first built.pull the drivetrain from a newer explorer or go with an aftermarket upgrade.check the 4×4 magazinethey have alot of links or just type your model in search bar and type 4wd or 4×4 parts

Q: 1994 Ford Explorer 4.0?
Does anyone know where I can get something called a CID for my 1994 explorer 4.0 eddie bauer edition….I tried all the junk yards around here but no one has it and the dealer wants 488.00 for it and part store wants 400.00!!! OUTRAGOUS! So if anyone could please help me it would be greatly appreciated! =)
also does anyone know if it will crossrefrence with any other car?

A: If you have a CID problem with your Explorer, which is a cylinder identification fault, just pay what it takes to fix it. The CID is not a part on the vehicle. It is the identification of a fault or diagnostic code, which identifies which cylinder is firing in your engine when referenced by the powertrain control module. Usually leads to a PCM replacement, which would warrant the price you suggested. There is no cheap way around a PCM replacement, and it is better left to a qualified technician. You do not want an inexperienced person handling a PCM replacement on your vehicle, don’t do it correctly and you will have a very heavy paperweight in your driveway.

Update: Powertrain control modules are vehicle specific, and do not cross between models on the Ford vehicles. You can try a junkyard unit, but it will need to be same year and model as yours, and your vehicle will still need to programmed into the module, parameter reset, key codes, etc. A new module will be the best option.

Q: What’s wrong with my 1994 Ford Explorer?
Hi,

My 1994 Ford Explorer is not running. The problems first started when I saw/smelt a little smoke coming from my engine. I saw that the a/c compressor was very hot and/or smoking a little bit.

It was then pointed out to me that the radiator fluid was very low. So, I filled it up with water and ran on it for a couple days and then I put some radiator fluid in. Literally 1 hour after I put the radiator fluid in there, I drive the car and start hearing clanking noises. Then the car turned off while i was driving it! The steering got very stiff, and I pulled over to the side of the road. The car wouldn’t start unless it was jumped by another car, however at this time the car won’t even turn on with another car to jump it. Also, when the car did turn on, the power steering didn’t work. I had to wrestle it across the street for street cleaning.

The a/c compressor has a tiny broken piece on the front. It looks like it shouldn’t be very hard to replace this piece. The timing belt was shredded !It was ripped apart and pulled out of the engine.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I’m wondering how much repairs could be for each possibly damaged part, and where to find them in Van Nuys, CA, 91405.

I’d also like to know if this is something me and my unexperienced friends can handle, or if a mechanic is necessary. I’ve heard it is difficult to match the car’s timing perfectly?

If a mechanic is necessary, how much is fair pricing?

Thank you!

Ty

A: tell you what, im going out on a limb here, but here goes, sounds to me like you had a compressor malfunction the compressor locked up shredded the belt, possibly a piece of the belt rapped around the crankshaft pulley and may have damaged the crank sensor, thus no start, the power steering will not work without the serpentine belt, i don’t think a ford v6 motor had a timing belt i believe it is a chain, so it sounds to me like compressor locked up stalled the vehicle, the power steering went out with the belt, and the belt broke the crank sensor, if so then for temporary buy a ac clutch for that vehicle, install it and put a new belt on it, if it still wont crank, check crank sensor located on passenger side or bottom of crank shaft pulley see if it is damaged

Q: Changing Passenger Side Wheel Bearings 1994 Ford Explorer 4×4?
Just looking for a little advice here. I am getting ready to attempt to change the wheel bearings on my Ford Explorer 4×4 by myself this weekend. I have changed them before on a normal car but never on a 4×4. Is there anything I must look for or steps I might take to make this easier.
The parts are $15.99 for both bearings and $5.99 for the seal. The local garage wants $245.00 to make the repairs and I just can’t see it being that difficult to warrant that amount……

Help

A: its a fun job ur prob gonna need some new plastic lock out parts as they just about always brake when u take it all apart, if one side is bad fix them borh while ur at it

Q: How would I go about adding horsepower to my 1994 Ford Explorer LE for $200 or under?
I have a 1994 Ford Explorer Limited V6 4×4 that I recently bought. It’s a really good ride, but I would like to start modding the engine little by little. I’m a college student paying for my schooling while working a part time job and doing a random assortment of things for money. I’m looking mainly for ideas under $200 that I could maybe do. Any help is greatly appreciated.

In addition to this, the motor is really fairly low mileage for as old as it is. The engine only has 131,xxx miles on it.

A: A cold air intake. If you get a cold air intake system from K&N it might cost a little more than $200, but you should be able to build your own for way less. Do some research, see what you need to build it, and go for it.

Q: 1994 Ford Explorer Tuneup question?
My Explorer has the 4.0L motor. It WAS running very good until I changed the spark plugs today. I put in autolite 765 plugs, I gapped at .054 which is what is called for. The vehicle had Bosch Platinum hr80px and was running fine. I checked the firing order and I believe it is correct. Pretty simple the Oblong Distributor has 6 wires coming off of it, from the front to back 1on left I put to plug 1 on left, 2 on left to plug 2 on left, 3 on left to plug 3 on left….the front on right went to front plug on right, middle on right went to middle plug and the last one on the right went to back plug on right. I believe this is correct but don’t have a manual……Any ideas why it was running good before I replaced the plugs and is now missing.???….I checked at the parts store they said the plugs are right for the vehicle ?

A: Email me at CarDoctor_08@yahoo.com and I’ll send you a diagram of the correct firing order. I think you have it wrong.

Q: which way do I install my new heater control valve in my 1994 ford explorer. I know I have one.?

A: dosent matter not directional … vaccum operated

Q: Any Ford Fans or mechanics?
I have a 1994 Ford Explorer. It has a 4.0L engine.I need to know the name of a part.I will try to explain it as simple as possible. It is connected to the 2 hoses that come out of the firewall on the passenger side. And then there are 2 hoses that connect to it from the other side of it.One of them goes to the water pump.I cannot see exactly where the other one leads. It has some sort of regulator? or something on it that has a wire leading from it.I know it almost has to have something to do with the heater and A/C.The part I am talking about seems to actually be 2 parts.I need to replace it as it has a leak in it.I can see the leak. It’s tubuler in shape and about the size of a quarter in width. And maybe 4 or 5 inches long.

A: It is the hot water or heater valve, it shuts off coolant flow to the heater core when you turn on the A/C, to make the A/C more efficient.

Q: Can anyone tell me the name of this movie??? Please :) ?
I watched this movie in 2003 on tbs or lifetime. I remember that it was a movie about a family that is traveling somewhere, and they had a white 1991-1994 Ford Explorer, they stumble upon an abandoned ghost town. There is a dad, a mom, a son and a daughter. There also might have been other family members too. I really don’t remember much about this movie, since I watched it when I was 6 or 7. I desperatley want to see this movie again, but I can’t find the title anywhere. The movie has some nuclear parts in it too, and at the end of the movie the family is forced to stay there and they turn into one of the “people” that lived there. The mom works at a restaurant and the dad is shown sitting on a bench. Then some bikers stumble upon this town as well, and thhat is the way this movie ends. It is not The Hills Have Eyes, that movie is from 2005. Thanx so much :)

A: Disappearance?

Q: Not reading enough octane?
I have a 1994 Ford Explorer.

ran well until it got a spark knock from turns out a vac leak. being like that for about a year or so it messed up something so my car had no power and horrible gas mileage. the garage did a dio test and it said that it’s not getting enough octane or something like that. he said it was a really rear code and that it’s about $200-ish parts and labor to fix b/c it needs a new computer. being cheap i used premium and octane booster in it for a while and it didn’t do anything.

so what do i need a new one of? i see on websites they have engine control computers and fuel pressure regulators in that price range, but i have no idea what effects octane reading.

what do i need and how would i go about fixing it myself? don’t worry i have friends that can do it if they know how, plus i’m a mechanical engineer and can half-ass figure things out on the car. thanks!
it’s not knocking anymore. i gave it a tune up which didn’t help then took it to the garage were they found out it was a vacuum leak and fixed it. it doesn’t knock anymore, just has no power and horrible gas mileage. i was told it’s not getting enough octane and just wondered what’s the computer in the car that i need to replace.

A: damn. people are stupid. its that computer thing.
